Washington loses tonight, but Ovechkin with the only goal for them on the PP.

30 goals for him in 42 games.  Unless he hits a major wall or gets injured, he just might get the record this season.

11 more to tie, 12 to pass Gretzky with 23 games left.  He needs a goal every other game.

The coaches have been very judicious in managing the minutes he plays. He usually is in the range of 16-18 minutes.

I also haven't been paying attention to the West, but Edmonton is fading a bit.

Lost 4 in a row and 6 of the last 8....and the 2 wins in there were both in OT. They haven't won a game in regulation in 9 games.  22 goals allowed in the last 4 games.

Every team has ups and downs, but they need to get some better goaltending and/or play better defensively or they are going to be in a bit of trouble come playoff time.

The Coilers have needed goaltending for ages. Looks good on them. I despise that team almost as much as TO.

Word from some people close to the Canucks suggest they wouldn’t be surprised if Vancouver doesn’t deal Petersson that he could see him becoming a buyout player if it continued into next season. Crazy. Also said that it’s unlikely he ever becomes a point a game player again.

Hopefully Adams stays far away from EP40.

He was 1+ ppg the past two season (102 points, 89 points) and is having a bad year this year on a pace for 48 points in 74 games. His shooting percentage this year is 'only' 11.7%. whereas in 6+ years his shooting percentage overall is 16.2% and never lower than 15.2% in a season until this year.  He turned 26 in November.

How is it unlikely he never gets back to PPG again?

The time period is about a year...but its not just 'this' year. His slump started almost exactly when he signed his contract extension last year.

-His production dropped dramatically from the time he signed until the end of the regular season

-he got even worse in the playoffs, with less than 1/2 point per game (previously in his career he was more than a point per game playoff guy)

-Of course this year, that production drop has continued

-As others have mentioned, he was a non-factor in the 4 nations tournament

So its not just a bad stretch, this is going on for about a year now. 2 different regular seasons, a playoff run, an exhibition tournament.  He never had a stretch of 'down' production in his career even close to this long.  The only plausible explanation for many is he has an injury, but the team denies it, he denies it, and if he did, he had an entire offseason to rest it in the middle of this bad stretch and he still has not returned to form.

So yeah, to say he will never be a point per game player?  maybe he will, maybe he won't...but there is something that is 'off' for sure with is game....and no one has a good explanation for it yet.

I don't know. I don't get it.  I like him as a player and I thought he was on his way to being a top 10 player in the league...but his play lately is not even a fraction of that.

Devils' Jack Hughes injury: Season-ending scenario is a possibility, doctor says

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ice_hockey/devils-jack-hughes-injury-season-ending-scenario-is-a-possibility-doctor-says/ar-AA1A9Z4e?ocid=BingNewsVerp

Over the last 4 seasons hes a 40 goal, 100 point guy per 82 games and still only 23 years old. Kid just can't seem to get to 82 games though, no luck with injuries.

You clearly aren’t watching his game. In the last calendar year he’s been abysmal. He’s not moving his feet, he’s not shooting the puck.

When you make $11.6 and are the 5th highest paid player in the entire league, “down years” aren’t really a thing.

Red Wings and Senators both now currently out of a playoff spot. Hopefully not used as evidence for why making the playoffs is “hard”. But those teams are also sad sacks. Not close to our level, but very bad

Yzerman should be well gone

You are correct, I am not watching him. That's why from afar it seems so bizarre to say he'll never be elite again.

But down years can be a thing with anyone. I'm not justifying it, just saying that a high salary doesn't mean it's impossible to go through a bad stretch.  I doubt he forgot to how to play hockey. If not an injury it's got to be mental, or some strange thing like the Cody Hodgson situation.

I think at the end of the season Detroit will be in the playoffs.

Actual season ending surgery, or "hey, just in time for LTIR" surgery?  I haven't paid much attention to what he's been dealing with.

LTIR for the rest of the year.  Wonder if they might be a trade possibility for Dylan Cozens to make up for Hughes absence?

Injury into the boards due to a collision with Jack Eichel.  Looked like he hurt his shoulder.

They have a couple of RHDs in their pool. No one wants to hear about kids but both players are close. Could be part of a deal.

Wasn't that the thing being said about Hughes when he was drafted? Highly skilled, but could he withstand NHL physicality? I seem to remember that discussion taking place.

Considering how much he likes vets vs. how young the Sabres are.... how do you think he would do if he replaced Kevyn?

It would be pretty funny if he did come here and the first thing he did was ship out Cozens to Detroit.

This is a weird trade for where both teams are trending

Schenn and Bunting have one more year left and Novak has two. I was thinking maybe one team would be trying to add an expiring contract, but it looks like that’s not the case. A very odd deal for two bottom feeders.
