And they are doing it in the AHL's Division Of Death.

This organization has lucked into it's coach of the future in Leone and I pray they recognize this instead of sticking with the awful Seth Appert as the plan.

Appert was about that good in Rochester too.

Those teams won in spite of Appert. Leone is getting better results with significantly less talent than Seth had.

I keep hearing that Adams is underqualified, are we sure? Rochester is looking damn good

no, I think I disagree. From the available data, ALL the available data, I think Adams would be a *completely* reasonable American Hockey League GM.

Isn’t Karmanos the GM in Rochester the last few years? May not be an opening there. Hey, maybe Karmanos and Adams can switch positions.

Amerks went from a decent team to a very good team when Levi was put in goal. I don't know if one coach is better than the other.

Yes Karmanos is the GM of the Amerks.

He is going to make them an offer they can't refuse

I did a little math on Devon Levi with the Amerks.

This is per games played.

Last year     percent of games won   percent of games won or tied

Levi                        61%                                   77%

All others               47%                                  60%

This year

Levi                         71%                                   80%

All others                52%                                  60%

But isn't the R the AHL-level player? How can you have a WAR in the AHL? This is melting my brain.

I don’t know. I was just saying he provided 15 more wins over the course of 82 than whoever the other goalies are

WA(R)R - wins above relative replacement?

The Amerks are a wagon.
Aube-Kubel with two tonight, Murray (21) and Rosen (24) also scored, and they’ve pushed their winning streak to six. Levi excellent tonight as well in the 5-1 win against third place Cleveland.
They’re at 29-12-3-1 on the year, which is the second best record in the league.  I’m saving my pennies to follow their playoff run in the spring instead of going to Sabres games for the rest of the year.

Leone seems to have a pulse on what to do with a group.  Appert probably needs to go back down a level.  He's attrocious at his job in the NHL.

Leone also called out RyJo & Komarov on Sabres Live today. Said they’ve been playing hard minutes and excelled. He was complimentary of Metsa of his effort and defending as a smaller guy.  He was also saying Levi has impressed in getting whistles during chaos and working very hard. We know Levi may have outgrown AHL competition, but he’s excelling instead of stagnating.  You love to see it.

He’s gonna be an NHL All Star. I said what I said.

He should get his chance in BUF soon as UPL has disappointed as much as anyone this year. Though In his brief NHL action this year, Levi has looked hideous. Hope it changes

Amerks are Karmanos' baby.

I don't think it is fair to assess either goalie at the NHL level until the Sabres learn how to play defense.

Levi has proven he is a great AHL goalie.  Now he needs to take the next step and prove he can be a competent NHL goalie.

The question is will Adams/Ruff give him the PT to prove it down the stretch.  I’d love to see him get some consecutive games to try to find some form in the NHL.

He's getting closer, but he still only has 48gp in the AHL.

IMO a goaltender needs at minimum 100gp at the AHL level before they should sniff the NHL.

By comparison, Askarov has 108gp in the "A" and he's just now breaking in to the Sharks lineup.

Ryan Miller played a full season in the AHL at age 23 and another full season at age 24... having 170gp in the AHL  before permanently breaking into the NHL in 2005 as a 25 year old.

Likewise, Dustin Wolf has had NHL nibbles, but accrued 141 AHL games over the previous 4 seasons before making the full-time jump to hyperspace this year.

Good comparison as far as size and playing style.

Wolf also won some AHL hardware in consecutive years.
