Amerks 24/25 - Young Talented Roster

Leone has been a real find. He has installed a standard he expects everyone to play to. Even when they win he is on the team because he didn’t like the way they played, it wasn’t up to their standard. And the players talk about the standard all the time in interviews.  And they are a very talented team. First OA in the AHL with a ton of kids playing vital roles.

I think Leone should be the next Sabres coach, not Appert. Team looks much better under Leone’s leadership.

Appert had some success but Leone has gotten the Amerks to another level, with a young roster too. Normally teams like Hershey that are mostly veteran AHLers dominate.

amerks win in 5 round shoot out vs marlies.  helenius with the goal in the shootout and levi with the shutout.  nice win!

I wonder if it’s too early for him to get some interest from other teams this offseason. If so, the Sabres may be forced to bring him up. Wonder if Ruff would step aside if this happens.

😂 maybe if the Sabres gave me anything to be positive about. The Sabres are last in the conference and 29th in the league. There us nothing positive about that

Here are some positive thoughts: they’ll most likely finish in the bottom 10 of the league for the 11th time in 14 seasons

Amerks best team in the AHL. Sabres winning 5 of 6. Young players like Kulich emerging. Levi may be the next Ryan Miller. I'm weird in that I don't like being miserable about everything. I try to enjoy things.

A good goalie like Levi can make a coach look better than he is. Leone may be a fine coach but in theory swap Levi for Subban and see if he still is in the playoff chase.

Levi is having a good season. But he is 6th in save % in the AHL. Former Sabre and journeyman goalie Devin Cooley has a better save % (in 7 more games played).  I don’t see Amerks games, but my sense is Levi has been a big part of their success and the team is playing a much more structured and effective game. 

Not many coaches or teams will continue to thrive if you replace their good goalie with a bad one.

Exactly. You don't know why they're winning. They score a lot of goals. 178 in 51 games. (#1 in AHL) That's 3.49/gm. It's not Levi doing it all, although he did stand on his head in the latest 1-0 shootout shutout.

Point to me one great NHL coach that didn’t have good goaltending.
