I still believe his ceiling is a Lydman. And just as with Lydman, I don't believe he'll reach his professional peak with his first franchise. But, as long as he's with the Sabres he remains a steady and boring defender.

I think Joki is a completely serviceable D man. Maybe a tad bit of an overpay, but I figure that that is just the Sabres’ right-handed Defenseman tax.

Meh.  I want a more physical presence back there.  
 

Joki teamed with Power was so easily dominated in front of our goalie last season.  Watch the playoffs.  You could never trust this pair in crunch time.  
 

I know he has some positives but he brings nothing special other than RH shot.   Steady, serviceable but not adding much.

I wish Ryan Johnson was right handed, would have saved over $2M. I find RyJo to be a better skater and is elusive with the puck.

I found Jfresh’s overview of the player so amusing (and dispiriting). There’s a lot of talk about who’s JAG on this team. I’m not even sure Joki clears that threshold.

Obviously not in the longer term plans or the Sabres would have offered a multi year contract.

I think one of these years Joker will not be signed.

Was he not UFA ??

I wonder if there was much interest - obviously not at $3.1M.

He was not a UFA. He was an RFA
