Trade: C Ryan McLeod - Oilers for Matt Savoie

Recommended Posts

Sounds like McLeod isn't particularly gritty but that's based on Twitter from Edmonton fans. Curious what he looks like here. A bit risky but you couldn't expect all of Östlund, Savoie, Kulich to play here. I'll let it play out, but I'm glad Adams added another center.

Helenius made Savoie expendable.

The Sabres have added a ton of speed up front this offseason.

Does Tullio go to the Amerks?

Tullio’s dad owns the Oshawa Generals and a minority piece of the Sens.

Tullio played for the Gens and was a good player. He will be a good AHL player at the least. Not a big guy.

I’m pretty sure this is sarcasm, but it is a huge pressure release trade.  We all knew (as did the rest of the NHL) that we couldn’t enter next season with Krebs pencilled in the 3C.  This move gives us a legit 2-way 3C who kills penalties, wins draws and who is young enough and cheap enough to be a piece for the next few years.  It also removed a forward from our logjam of forward prospects.  I might agree that this move is “boring”, but the 2024/25 Sabres are better now than they were this morning.

I agree. All these boring moves leave the end result still very much in question, but at least now we’ve completed ALL of the boring moves necessary for that to be viable

the revamped bottom 6 narrative wasn’t complete until this move

I have to laugh at this

people, we don’t need to trash Savoie now. The point is that he’s a GOOD PROSPECT

That’s half of what makes the trade so promising

I take your meaning but I’m celebrating the fact it’s not a hockey trade, tbh

we sold a prospect and bought a now player

big day

For sure. Today, the Sabres are dramatically better. The Edmonton staff can look at Savoie and say, I think rightly, that he'll make his Oilers debut this season and stick for good in 2025-26.

This isn’t the “go for it” move of getting someone like Karlsson or Cirelli (if they were even available), but it’s a substantial upgrade over the Krebs we saw last year.

We are witnessing the best effort Adams has to give, right on time, when he most needs it

i wish him luck.

McLeod MIGHT be Cirelli good this season.

I’m not trashing Savoie.

McLeod will help the Sabres next season and is a huge improvement at the 3C

Savoie will not. You major this deal seven days a week and twice on Sunday

She's (the Millenium Sabre) fast enough for the old man. What's the cargo?

It certainly changes the complexion of the bottom 6 (Robinson and Zemgus were fast, but no one was going to call Jost, VO, or Okposo speedsters).
