shrader Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 I’ll be curious to hear any info on the throw in guy. This isn’t a case where teams need to even out the number of contracts… unless Edmonton and other moves have put them close to the limit. 2 Quote
pi2000 Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 immediate upgrade, but was curious to see what Savoie could produce in Rochester. 2 1 Quote

Playing center behind McDavid and Draisaitl (whenever they aren't on the ice together) and now Henrique. Savoie could become a legitimate top-6 forward, but the Sabres kept the better Winnipeg ICE prospect within the organization, and now have a legit 2/3C to push Cozens and take D-zone faceoffs for Ruff. This is a good hockey trade from both sides. 14 3 1 2 Quote
#freejame Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 Can McLeod realistically challenge Cozens for 2C? That seems like a low opinion of Cozens or a high opinion of McLeod. 1 minute ago, DarthEbriate said: Playing center behind McDavid and Draisaitl (whenever they aren't on the ice together) and now Henrique. There's also that thing about having too many of the same types of players. And that thing about the necessity of getting better now. I liked Savoie, but I think he was more likely to become a Tyler Ennis than a star. Not sure if McLeod can be more than what he is right now. That's consecutive trades made where Adams "lost value" to "fix his roster" It's what a lot of people wanted. As usual, time will tell. “Watching Zach (Benson), most nights he was as good if not better then Matty (Savoie)” -Lukas Suter, Sabres Western Scout from the 2023 NHL Draft Embedded Video. Savoie Value to the team started to decreased the second Benson was drafted 3 1 1 1 Quote

Cascade Youth Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 (edited) The Athletic also reported a few weeks ago that Savoie wasn’t thought of as a future star around the league. Also, weird, aren’t the Oilers without a GM right now? Edited July 5 by Cascade Youth 2 Quote

Mustache of God Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 There was never going to be enough room for Savoie, Kulich and Östlund. It's always been obvious that some of them would be moved. I don't know anything about this guy but reading that's he's laser fast and can actually play defense makes me like the trade . 6 Quote

Not earth shattering, but a solid move. Agree. We lose some upside definitely, and the coming year is still hard to predict as this isn’t exactly a splash, but it’s very solid. It was huge to replace Krebs as 3C 31 minutes ago, thewookie1 said: According to the Oilers, he's a very soft player. I hate overpaying regardless though; we're being torn a new one on the HFboards This is a good trade! Now people are complaining that we overpaid. I suppose the reactions here were to be expected. Quote the posters you are calling out Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 Just now, Shoot da Puck said: This will sell alot of tickets Huge move I’m pretty sure this is sarcasm, but it is a huge pressure release trade. We all knew (as did the rest of the NHL) that we couldn’t enter next season with Krebs pencilled in the 3C. This move gives us a legit 2-way 3C who kills penalties, wins draws and who is young enough and cheap enough to be a piece for the next few years. It also removed a forward from our logjam of forward prospects. I might agree that this move is “boring”, but the 2024/25 Sabres are better now than they were this morning. 2 6 Quote

LabattBlue Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 The prospect I would have been most happy to jettison is Rosen, but if McLeod is an ideal solution at 3C, is Sabres property for at least 2 seasons, and can slide up to 2C when needed, then…. Savoie we hardly knew thee. 1 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 7 minutes ago, #freejame said: Can McLeod realistically challenge Cozens for 2C? That seems like a low opinion of Cozens or a high opinion of McLeod. Last year, Cozens had a slow start, then his concussion. It took him a long time to look himself, but HCDG always kept him in the top 6. McLeod will likely only ever be a 3C on this roster as well, but he has the 200' game to push on Cozens if injuries/slumps take place. Ruff will mix-match lines and ice time and this is a good piece for that. 2 3 Quote
