PromoTheRobot Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 The arrogance is neverending. The Sens pull a one-goal win out their butts, on a night when the Sabres were obviously tired, and they're are already declaring it the comeback of a lifetime. The Sabres hit the wall in games 3 and 4 of the Philly series. How did they do in games 6 & 7? Go ahead, Ottawa. Believe the Sabres will crumble. Believe your own hype. Set yourself up for failure in front of the home crowd. PTR

MillerTyme Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 **** NEWSFLASH **** The sabers pulled three one goal wins, two on overtime - anything can happen, get over yourself First of all its sabRES ... and yes anything can happen, the series has been a nailbiter every game so a comeback is not out of the question but you have to agree that predicting a comeback after one win is very premature. Theres a huge difference between optimism and stupidity and there is a lot of Sens fans tiptoeing that line. Anything is possible but lets not go out on a limb and predict an unprecedented comeback after one game. Its rediculous. After game three, 95 percent of Sens fans said they were done, now all of a sudden there is some huge epiphany that the Sens are going to win the series. One game at a time!

From what the WGR guys were saying this morning, Buffalo fans have done the exact opposite (although everyone I've talked to still thinks the Sabres will win the series). I imagine the actual number of Sens fans that think the comeback will happen is much less than 95%.
MartyHavlatismyGOD Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 The Number of Sens fans that actually think it will happen can probably be counted on one hand... Everybody else is just hoping to hell that it can.
Taro T Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 From what the WGR guys were saying this morning, Buffalo fans have done the exact opposite (although everyone I've talked to still thinks the Sabres will win the series). I imagine the actual number of Sens fans that think the comeback will happen is much less than 95%. Ottawa is, on paper, the best team in the league (even with Emery between the pipes). It was asking for a lot to get a sweep. In a game that Buffalo did not seem to be prepared for mentally, they lost by 1 goal. And Drury and Max and several others are unfortunately in the "what if" mode that Ottawa had been forced into for 3 straight games. It really stinks that Max was the player to miss the open net in the 2nd, because he was the only Sabre besides Miller that showed up in the 1st. I expect Buffalo to come out and play much better on Saturday. Will it be enough for them to win that 1, I don't know. Rory dressing on the road makes me nervous. I am much more comfortable with him playing at the Mmarena. IF the Sens win game 5, BUFFALO WILL WIN GAME 6.
SDS Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Why would the Sabres be tired? yeah, I didn't get that one either...
cgang Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 The highs are high. The lows are low. These teams are BOTH too good for there NOT to be swings in the series. I don't think it is earth shattering news that the Sabres would lose at least one game in this series (a series that, by the way, many of us predicted the Sabres would lose). They are playing well, had a crappy effort in the first period, and then put that behind them and got to work. Anyone who thinks that they will not lose more games in the playoffs is just delusional. Get with it folks. It's the playoffs. Every team lays it on the line. And EVERY team has a let down at some point. The better ones bounce back. It will be interesting to see how this young team does in Ottawa on Sat. As was said in the morning paper, if the series goes 7 games, the Sabres don't deserve to advance. Let the chips fall where they may. I, for one, think this has thus far been a very entertaining series and am enjoying every minute of it.

Let the chips fall where they may. I, for one, think this has thus far been a very entertaining series and am enjoying every minute of it. Only if they lose that one as well. I don't expect to see the series go past 6; but if it does, it does. So be it. The Sabres are playing the (on paper) best team in the league. If it takes 7 games to beat them, then it takes 7. The Sabres are young and learning. Every game they play gives them some new tool to add to their box. I honestly believe that Lindy Ruff is a better coach than Murray is. Murray is a good coach, I just believe that Lindy is better. Come game 7 (if it does arrive), Lindy will find a way to get that extra little bit out of his players. If somehow he doesn't, THEN the Sabres don't deserve to advance. Winning in 7 against an opponent that most outside observers believe to be the better team is not an accomplishment to be looked down upon. I think this part of the discussion will be moot, though. I don't know what game 5 will bring, but IF the Sabres have to play game 6 I expect to see them find a way to do what they need to do. (That said, I will be extremely nervous the entire day and throughout the game.)
Rabbit151 Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 The fatigue factor should go slightly in the Sabres favor. I think they balance the ice-time a bit more and are a bit younger than the Sens. They just blew it last night. A chance to close at home and they played the whole 1st period like they had a 1 goal lead. How big was Drury's cross-bar in the opening minutes? If that goes in, the Sens fold quicker than a mailman with an over-sized envelope and an under-sized mail-slot.

(That said, I will be extremely nervous the entire day and throughout the game.) Ok, you got me there. I agree, a best of 7 is just that. My only point and I think the point of the news article is this: if you have a team down by 3 and lack a killer instinct to end it, perhaps it is your own fault and you are playing with fire if you let it go to 7 games. I am not saying that happened in Game 4 either (other than in that first period anyway). I am hoping this part of the discussion is moot too. I also agree with you that Ruff may have a slight edge in coaching. I also believe that Ruff has the benefit of coaching a team that I believe is closer as a "team" than Ottawa. On paper Ottawa may have an edge but I think the Sabres have an edge on some of the intangibles. As they learn and gain experience, that will serve them so much for the better as the playoffs go on. They closed the deal in Philly only after letting Philly tie it up. Let's see if they can close in Ottawa BEFORE the same thing happens.
rickshaw Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 If we were told we'd be up 3-1 after 4 games, would we have taken it? You bet. We control our destiny. Could we blow it? Sure. But let's hope that the rules will be called the way they should be, and I believe we will win the one we need. I hate the pressure. But we should win this series. If we lose 4 in a row. Well that will suck huge dongs, but that's life. We'll be better on Saturday. Hopefully we get the win.
