#freejame Posted August 30 Report Posted August 30 Dave and Adam’s is having a Labor Day sale. I may have gone a little nuts, but I’ll have made a good dent in both the sets Im collecting. My only wish is that my son was born in a better draft year. 22-23 rookie class sucks. Quote
GoPuckYourself Posted August 30 Report Posted August 30 I just saw this thread now, I've been an avid collector since the 80's. I still remember chasing the 1986 donruss Jose Canseco Rated Rookie, such an iconic card. I now have 1 graded. I have a bunch of hockey mostly graded, Cozens, Ullmark (sold), Rinehart (sold), Eichel (sold), Tuch FWA, Devon levi, Jack Quinn, JJ peterka, looking to get thompson. Also have a PSA 4 Gilbert perault RC and looking to get the rest of the French Connection. 1 Quote

I tend to stick to HOF types for the premium you pay for graded. That said, I got a Dahlin and Power Young Guns, both graded 9, for pretty reasonable prices. I'll post some pics of the young Sabres once I get the rest delivered and cased up. I have a card for pretty much every player in the HHOF - anyone that played before 1950, they are not cards from their playing days, too expensive, but maybe some day? (Also, at least 30 of the players in the HHOF played before there were even hockey cards out there, so tribute sets are the only way to go - oh well) I started collecting in 1990, so Griffey Jr was my white whale. I never had the big deal Upper Deck Griffeys, but I had some others. Obviously, anything from like 1988 - 1998 is so cheap now unless you find a perfect one graded 10, so I have a few pages of Griffey in my baseball book. 1 Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 The ol superflea was the place for collectors, we had a shop in Springville back in the day as well; always met my friends and hung out there, played magic, opened new packs, etc etc.... I miss those days. I have a massive collection somehwere, it may have wandered down to NC with my parents, but sadly after the move, I don't know where they all went, a lot of $$ gone. Quote
pastajoe Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 I don’t currently collect, but I still have my collection of hockey cards going back to the 1970s. I stopped collecting around the end of the Gretzky era. I also have many Starting Lineup hockey figures including; the first six that were produced, a Hasek-Gretzky one-on-one diorama, and a Gretzky-Messier two-pack with a replica Stanley Cup. My son doesn’t want them so I’m going to have to find a buyer for everything. 1 Quote
Big Guava Posted September 2 Report Posted September 2 Never hockey, but was a huge baseball card collector and also football for a while. Quote
Crusader1969 Posted September 2 Report Posted September 2 I collected mid 70s to early 80s and then again for a couple of years in the 90s along with everyone else 2 years ago I decided to start collecting from my year of birth (1969) to current. Luckily my birth year coincides with the Sabres existing. this last year I collected 73/74, 83/84, 2013/14 and 2023/24 O-pee-chee for the older and upper deck for the newer. I collect the base sets plus all the young guns ....expensive this year due to the Bedard card. Completed all except for a couple of young guns in the extended set. Quote

Deep discounts on Dave and Adam’s website for Labor Day on 2023-24 UD series one and two. They will have another very significant sale as well for Thanksgiving. If you don’t care about when you get the cards, you can pretty safely collect for Dave and Adam’s two years in the rear and always get things at a solid markdown. 2 Quote

Assuming it's a pretty low rating but still would be nice to know what it's worth always pains to think how many I had back then, some where probably traded away, lost in wall card battles or used in the spokes of my bike! No Gretzky rookie, just a bunch of different ones from later years. I hated the Bruins as a kid, so guys like Orr and Esposito saw my bike spokes. Quote
Phil Goyette Posted September 7 Report Posted September 7 I've got a binder with every Sabres card from 1970 to 1983. 70-73 I have the O Pee Cee cards as well. Hope to find a Tim Horton rookie some day. I've got a few Schmidt's beer pamphlets, and schedules from most years. Quote
