Stoner Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Of course this is easy for me to say from the comfort of my living room, but the fans were horrible last night. The early goal took them right out of it. Sure, they got loud after the Sabres scored, but then in the third, all they wanted to do was boo the officials. To what end? It just makes the Sabres' sticks tighten even more. It was reminiscent of Game 3 against Washington in the conference finals. We won Game 1 in Washington but got jobbed in Game 2 on a suspicious Caps' goal and another in overtime when icing should have been called. Game 3 -- all the fans wanted to do was boo the officials. IIRC, the same linesmen from Game 2 worked Game 3. I don't remember the fans booing the power play last night, but if that's what Briere said, I believe it. And that's just sick. They say as the playoffs go on and the tickets get more expensive, the "real fans" are priced out. I suspect it might be true. When Fitzpatrick got hit in the face by the puck last night, many in the lower bowl raised up with both hands in the air, then booed. What call did they want on Ottawa? Two minutes for pucking? Oh yeah, no real fan was anywhere near a broom yesterday. And no real fan this morning thinks everything is going to be fine. Real fans are, like me, pulling the shades and curling up in the corner in a fetal position. Ah, I feel better now. :)

Real fans are, like me, pulling the shades and curling up in the corner in a fetal position. Ah, I feel better now. :) I honestly feel that 4 things contributed to the crowd's behavior last night. 1 ) The crowd, like the Sabres, was tired, emotionally fried, and dare I say a little cranky. 2 ) The crowd was younger (in terms of adults) than as is typical. I haven't taken the time to figure out why that was. 3 ) The crowd, due to the pregame parties, has been intoxicated before the start of the games. 4 ) Kerry Fraser makes people insane, and was he ever poking the bear last night. It's really too bad. Buffalo should be shining right now. Instead we're all hung over, strung out, and exhausted. The fans need a break between series as much as the players do.
Stoner Posted May 12, 2006 Author Report Posted May 12, 2006 That's a good observation GGM. I know I felt like the Sabres played in the first period. Perhaps getting out of Dodge, which is going a bit overboard right now, will be good for the Sabres. As it turns out, the back to back games might have benefited the Senators.
CallawaySabres Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 I felt the same way about the crowd last night. Having gone to Wednesday's game, nothing was going to touch that!!! I was watching the game at home last night and was emotionally drained. Need to fuel up and get ready for Saturday. If a lot of the fans last night went to the previous game, it is completely understandable.
Seannie34 Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 I didnt go to the game but it seemed like I just never had time to get excited for game 4. Im used to the day inbetween and then I usually cant wait for the puck to drop the next day but that just wasnt there yesterday and I can imagine alot of the fans in the crowd felt the same way.

I have a slightly odd, but related complaint. The organist was playing "Let's go Buffalo" after EVERY play stoppage, it seemed. After last night's wild game, lots of people were slightly hoarse; not to mention tired, a little drained emotionally, and not even fully into the game yet. It was asking a lot of the crowd. When you say "I love you" too much, it loses its meaning. The organist backed off a little for the remainder of the game, but it never felt the same.
apuszczalowski Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 I was at the game last night and noticed at the start the fans were pretty riled up, Frasor's calls started taking most fans out of the game, and then when Ottawa scored first, the Building went dead. After that most poeple noticed there was no way this team was going to be able to fight off the Senators and the officials and it only got loud when there were some big chances for Buffalo to score. I got more riled up when Teppoe threw the official into te boards in the third, it showed to me the team wasn't going to put up with the crap the were calling all game.
LabattBlue Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 1 ) The crowd, like the Sabres, was tired, emotionally fried, and dare I say a little cranky. The fans need a break between series as much as the players do. I will vouch for the above. After giving it my all on Wednesday, I was beat all day on Thursday.
apuszczalowski Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Really, I gave it my all on Wednesday and was even more psyched for Thursday. Had Buffalo lost Tuesday in OT, I could understand the fans being drained, I think the win gave me ore energy knowing it could have/should have been over last night.

Had Buffalo lost Tuesday in OT, I could understand the fans being drained, I think the win gave me ore energy knowing it could have/should have been over last night. If you had a job and went to both games, you likely fell into 1 of 2 categories on Thursday: a) You went to work after a high-energy night with less than normal sleep or b) You stayed home from work and knew you couldn't skip out two days in a row I take Adderall every day and I went to work Thursday (we had a huge deliverable due), and I just couldn't completely kick the cobwebs at any point during the game. That extra gear just wasn't there for me last night.
bottlecap Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 The winning of game 3 took its toll on both players and fans. Ithink the reason we lost is because we couldn't bury our (numerous) chances. The crowd did seem to focus on taunting Emery and over-reacting a bit but that's what crowds do. And Buffalo has among the best fans in the NHL. I am disturbed by OLN's coverage which seems to have announcers that want Ottawa to win. They get more excited by their chances than ours, I think that's a good tip-off. But I suppose with the geniuses in charge of the league, we're lucky to have a TV contract at all.
SDS Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Two minutes for pucking? there was a couple in the upper level who got tossed for that... ;)

I was also a little pissed that they were confiscating any broom that still had a handle on it. I bought one during my lunch break at work and was gonna make a cool flagpole out of it but my brother told me when I got home he heard on the radio they would not allow anyone in with a broom that has a handle (for safety resons I assume) I don't remember hearing anyone Booing the Sabres PP, if there were any boo's it was typically at blown calls by officials. The most I heard were a bunch of "Shoot the puck!!!" calls from fans. But even if the fans had booed, their PP has been suffering recently and needs to be stepped up
Rabbit151 Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 I noticed the crowd out of it too. The 6th man for the Sabres was kind of lame last night. The young drunk guys should have especially been going, getting cheers started etc. You guys have a job to do out there, don't make me come all the way from Saskatchewan to show you how. (I can't afford to right now). What about elcrusho, he looks like a bit of a nut, did some men in black from the Sens organization sedate him and take him away?
LALALALALALAFONTAINE Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 That's a good observation GGM. I know I felt like the Sabres played in the first period. Perhaps getting out of Dodge, which is going a bit overboard right now, will be good for the Sabres. As it turns out, the back to back games might have benefited the Senators. I felt the same way. But lets not kid ourselves. Excess alcohol consumption creates better crowds. Just look at the differences between the early and later games in college football. The rowdiest ones are at night, when you can get a full day's worth of tailgating in.
Rabbit151 Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Ok, can you guys start drinking now for the next home game? I'm sure they will lose in Ottawa tonight, so make sure you are ready to will the team to victory next time. By the way Ottawa, you are an over-rated national capital that caters to liberals and francophones. Thank God we finally have a western PM. Let's all meet at your pro-football team's season opener next month,...oh wait...your rinky-dink town couldn't support a pro-football team.
