As someone who lives about halfway between the two I can confirm the body odour is not coming from the Queen City, but rather from the other side. A lot of the hate we have for the Leafs stems from stuff like this that aren’t even on the ice. Quote

You can see downtown Toronto clearly across the lake, and even coming down the hill Toward Lewiston it is clearly visible. Crystal clear high def hockey night in canada broadcasts with an antenna, no problem getting 590 sports talk out of Toronto...etc. Now I'm not saying Toronto is a worse city than Buffalo..it is many times Bigger, tons of money, etc. But we took a trip to Toronto last weekend, and wow, my wife said she had enough and doesn't want to go back for a long time. Getting around is a nightmare. Downtown is a disaster, on the weekend (not weekday rush hour) we sat and sat and inched up on Lakeshore Blvd just trying to get anywhere near downtown. A bit farther outside the city...you can deal with some traffic on 407 if you want to pay something like $40+ in tolls for a trip across the city. The 401? Mid day (not rush hour), no accidents, yet it was stop and go for MILES, and when you were going it was 20mph (worse than any memories I had of driving on the Cross Bronx expressway). And go to their 'fast' growing areas like Markham and Vaughan (we spent most of our time near in Vaughan or downtown) and you get terrible surface road traffic, and its just strip plaza after strip plaza..then a few big gray warehouses to break up the strip plazas, and then a lot of parking lots and 'floor tile' warehouse/showrooms. Again, I'm not trying to bash Toronto, but my wife grew up in NY city and still visits friends/relatives there, and this trip to Toronto (and the outer parts of the city)...lets just say she doesn't have a high regard to her former home in NY city anymore, but what we saw of 'day to day' living in the GTA I think is even a bit lower. You're right, it's not good there. It also is fast losing its character. It used to have some pretty cool neighbourhoods to visit. I find they're all a shadow of what they used to be. The tear down everything to build condos has killed the city badly. Replacing what few legacy restaurants and ma & pa stores that are left with chain stores and rando crap restaurants that won't stay open more than a year or two also doesn't help. The other thing I often think about is almost every city has some food and cultural thing they're famous for. Toronto has nothing to call their own. Buffalo on the other hand is known worldwide for their wings, and on a lesser basis, beef on weck. Some will say Toronto has hockey, but I think hockey is much more ingrained in Montreal culture. Other than that, you have a city that's trying super hard to be important on a world stage, but through all the pretentiousness, fails to establish a real identity. Quote

Have you ever gone to a Sabres/Toronto game here at home? They act like complete douchbags and it's even worse now that we're trash and can't even do anything about it. It stems from their fans coming into our building and acting like tools. If you've never gone to a game against the leafs at home, you'll come back with a different attitude. 2 Quote

We in Halifax and any other place in Canada don't call it The Great Satan for nothing. I grew up in Toronto and my feelings on it are well known, but the NHL team known as The Great Satan Leaves has nothing to do with it. Quote

Actually, it’s like the people who made one of the worst TV shows in history, making fun of a show that got canceled after 7 seasons. Trying to rationalize this as just having an objective opinion of a failed franchise is pathetic. The Leafs are better than the Sabres. You have no leg to stand on. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. How many more cliches do I need to reference? 1 Quote

Night Train Posted May 7 Report Posted May 7 Obviously a fun thread in jest. Leaf fans are obnoxious. I get the Sabres and their failures. But feel free to chastise and scold people on the internet. That's always a winning move, Mr. Mom. 1 Quote

Closest thing would be during the French Connection years Montreal-Sabres became a pretty real thing for a few years but not to the extent of say the Bruins-Habs or the Habs-Nordiques. imo Toronto should be the rival and maybe it can be if we ever get good again.
