Lindy will spend some time watching Rochester and the prospects, including Appert. If Ruff likes Appert, he could be part of his staff.

Has Appert run a good PP in Rochester?

I would like a PP and skill specialist like Adam Oates to be the PP coach.

Patrick or McKee as D coach is possible. McKee has the potential to be an NHL HC someday. Patrick is someone Lindy trusts.

Have you been banging the Adam Oates drum for like 2 decades or was it a collective effort.

I could be wrong, but I don't think he's watching Appert to see if he wants him on his staff, I think he's going to watch Appert to see if he thinks he's the right guy to develop players properly in Rochester or does he need to be replaced.

I am hoping that they will change the Rochester plan they have now and turn it into more a school for teaching players to improve on their defensive game and some of the things they perhaps did not learn in junior where they were big offensive stars.

Obviously he's also going to look at the players and see if anybody's on the cusp of the NHL or can fill a need.

You think Adams has ceded responsibility to Lindy to decide who coaches his minor league team?

Ahead of both himself and Karmanos?

You think the Sabres are concerned about Rochester? Which just had its 2nd best regular season since 2007? Won 2 playoff rounds last year and another the previous year? Has gone 112/79/20 under Appert? While icing a youth-heavy lineup that has graduated Quinn, Peterka, Lukkonnen, Samuelsson and Bryson to the big club?

What, other than your general disdain for the way the Sabres do things leads you to think they are concerned about Rochester?

I'm saying LINDY might have some new ideas. He said up front he didn't say yes to the job right away which makes me think he asked for some level of input or control. Maybe not, it's a guess, but it's what I would have done if I was him.

Now that's not to say Lindy can go in and say "fire Appert" or whatever, but he can perhaps have some say in the direction and how things are done. We shall see as time goes by. All speculative at this point.

The discussion of style and how they play (which me and you disagree on entirely, we know this) is another discussion but we shall see if that changes under Lindy or not as well. You can laud Rochester all you want, but we didn't make the playoffs for another year so to argue that what we have been doing is great/good/whatever word you want is just silly imo.

With the timing of the Lindy hire and it seeming like they knew he was going to be the guy, it makes me curious about Marty Wilford and Matt Ellis still being on staff.  Is there a chance these guys actually stick around?  Did Lindy just want a chance to meet / interview them?

The Lindy thing has been in the works for weeks, if not months.  I think Lindy decided to keep Ellis on before he signed on.

Or agreed to it as a condition on hiring.

Matt and Marty are Kevin’s guys. He’s protecting them for sure. One would think someone of Ruff’s stature would control the rest. I wonder if Doug Houda  might make a reappearance. They worked together in Long Island, and Ruff coached Dougie for a couple seasons. Linked is a list from ‘23. It’s neat to see so many familiar names still in the game.

There are so many “I forgot that guy played for us” names on that list. It’s no surprise that they pretty much all sync up with the last 13 years.
