You know what, I didn’t realize how much I wanted Ruff until it happened.

Hockey aside (yes), I just like him. I like Lindy Ruff and what he represents and always really liked him in Buffalo. Love how he stands up for the players.  I’ve struggled so much with a disconnect of late with this roster and this management, I don’t even care how superficial a factor it seems, it’s honestly really not: I WANT to root for Lindy.

He makes me like the team more. If it’s a gimmick hire - I’m sorry:

well done.

So is a Patrick Kane signing next?

Na, Mike Peca as Assistant HC be more fitting. I'm indifferent on Ruff, as I didn't see any great retreads available but Lindy without a great goalie is meh.

People told me he was washed last year and would be a horrible signing. Sometimes I get the feeling people on message boards don’t know everything.😜

Oh I absolutely was one of those people.

Now that Ruff is hired you're denying fans wanted him? Nice.

My question now is what happens to Seth Appert. Will her be brought up to assist Lindy, or do we lose him to another team?

I think this hire will be a big hit for the casual fans and a few of the more die-hards that just like the nostalgia. For many of us, this was, at best, maybe the 3rd or 4th best choice. Maybe he proves those of us wrong. I'm sure he'll improve things, but his ceiling is the question. Seems like there were coaches with much higher out there.

Once the shock of the incompetence of this hiring wears off, I'll be Lindy's biggest fan.  I just can't believe Adams didn't even kick some (other) tires before pulling the trigger.

If there was a “I probably agree with this” emoji I would give it to you.

To whom? If this truly was the case, Berube and Gallant's agents would have contacted the club regarding the coaching vacancy. Apparently that hasn't happened. I can't see Lindy getting the job over either of those 2 if they made themselves available to the Sabres organization. I'm good with the Lindy hiring but I do feel we, as Sabres fans, over value the players in the organization. Let's see what Lindy can do with them or we see who stays and who gets shipped out for next season. I'm not completely 100% sold on the players in the organization. Some will bloom, others will fail.

You don’t know that. Maybe Kevyn spoke to both. I mean there is a reason Gallant gets shitcanned so quickly in every stop. Leaving the guy on the side of the road isn’t a positive sign.😄

Im open minded to Lindy. He had NJ going last year with bad goaltending. This year they lost Hamilton early and had horrible goaltending. They didn’t improve at all when Green took over.

Again the rest of his staff is key to me.

I think I will come around to this.  I just have to get past the feeling that Adams "settled for" Ruff.  Maybe a few beers will chase this taste outta my mouth.

I like Ruff too but this was not and is not "well done"

They didn't even do a real search.

You mean the ones that said they drafted the wrong player from the Ottawa 67 a few years ago? Or The ones that thought the Bills drafted the wrong Josh? Or The message boards that wanted Dahlin traded? And Thompson waived? The message boards that wanted UPL cut? The ones that said Mitts was a bust ?  Or do you mean the current boards that want Power traded?

I think you might be onto something , that there are a lot of posters (often myself included) that have don't have a clue

Most coaches need great goaltending to be fair

They're absolutely no reason for Peca to leave the Rangers if he's under contract. None, let alone he couldn't.

Some did, most don't. And even if they did, who cares? Isn't the point to hire the best person?

This isn't a hire for the hardcore fans like us. It's a hire for the next level on the pyramid of Buffalo hockey fans.

Not the guy I would have picked, but if I'm honest with myself his resume probably ticks a lot of boxes if his name wasn't Lindy Ruff and this wasn't the Buffalo Sabres.

I suspect he's going to flame out spectacularly.

But I'm going to go with the way @Thorny is reacting because if I squint really hard I can kinda see it, and giving the latest move a chance is just the way I roll.

Now where's my Scotch?

You are right but I think Kevyn just wanted him and better to make it official then do a sham coaching search with multiple interviews if Lindy was going to be the guy anyways.

Luckily we have a great goalie and an other one in the wings, eh?

He can if it is a promotion. He couldn’t leave to be assistant coach in Buffalo but he could to be Associate Head Coach.

Lindy is a solid B coach .  Lets hope he and his  tougher staff weed out the softies.

For all of you who have brought up Peca  as assistant HC...bravo!

Maybe both told Kevyn "Thanks, but no thanks"? I am also open minded to Lindy. Emotion we will get and I don't think that's a bad thing. I agree, the rest of the staff is a huge key!! Let's see what New Jersey does next season under Green before you write him off. Hopefully Lindy does much better than Travis but I believe a full season under Green and Jake Allen in goal will get the Devils on the right path once again.
