Buffalo Super Fan Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 The Buffalo Sabres should reach out to Lindy Ruff right now as the next Sabres head coach and fire Don Granato immediately in my opinion. Go Sabres! Let’s Go Buffalo 7 4 6 Quote
Stoner Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 He was signed to a multi year in my opinion contract extension last fall after getting the Devs into the second round last spring. Narrator: The New Jersey Devils were only eight points out of a playoff spot. 2 Quote

Huckleberry Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 I would like him back, just to kick some fire into that room. 3 1 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 Everyone thought Ruff was gone at the beginning of last season after Brunette had joined the staff. Then the players went and started the season 21-4-1. Brunette got a head coach gig in Nashville. I wonder if the Devils front office doesn't regret making this same cut at the end of last season and going with Brunette. (And because naturally the conversation will go this way: why would Ruff come back to work for the Pegulas in any capacity?) 1 Quote
Rip Titwide Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 My memory may be playing tricks on me but wasn't Ruff actually interviewed or at least had a discussion with Buffalo before the official hiring of Meatballs? 1 1 Quote
Scottysabres Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 Well, looking at it strictly through the lens of success rates, Lindy was far more successful than the past 10 seasons........ So...... I'm in the ya, bring him back if he'll take the job crowd. Sorry LG and Swamp, but I ain't getting any younger, so "Are you not Entertained" is most definitely where my thoughts are. 2 Quote
thewookie1 Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 I honestly believe he would make a good POHO that even Pegula may allow. In part because I doubt Ruff would demand a non-Pegula presence clause in his contract. At minimum I’d offer him an advisory role of some kind seeing as he still has a house here and still loves the area. 1 1 Quote

Night Train Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 GA for NJ was 2.71 last year. 51 wins Now it's 3.49. 30 wins, Yikes ! Goals way down on O. Injuries and bad D. 2-5 in last 7 with a 4.5 GA. Hmm... 2 Quote
Flashsabre Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 Why do people automatically think he would be a good POHO? Pegula doesn’t want that. He wants Adams calling him 10 times a day. Nothing will change until there is new ownership. 1 1 Quote
tom webster Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 I love Lindy but for the “Sabres give up the first goal because DG doesn’t know how to fire them up and/or prepare them better crowd,” the only team that has allowed the first goal more then the Sabres this year is your New Jersey Devils 2 1 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 Given his multi year contract extension I doubt he takes a job anywhere. More likely he kicks back on a beach for a couple years at least. If that doesn't infringe on the contract terms he'd be a good choice to coach the Worlds or Olympics or other stuff like that. As for a POHO or other senior level job, idk. Don't think he's had a whole lot of player personnel type experience but if he wanted to be a "senior advisor" in Buffalo I could see that and would welcome it. 2 1 Quote

Go Sabres! Let’s Go Buffalo It's quite a day indeed when I find myself enthusiastically endorsing a post generated by discount AI. But I would swap DG out for Lindy in a heartbeat. BTW: Lindy got the Devils to a franchise-record 112 pts last season and their first playoff advancement since 2012. Then he lost 2 of his top 4 D last summer and he lost his #1D (Dougie Hamilton) for the season on Dec. 1. His best player, Jack Hughes, has missed 16 out of 61 games with injury, they've only gotten 28 pts out of major acquisition Timo Meier, and they've gotten crappy goaltending all year. And they're 1 under DeLuca .500 with 21 games left. He can still bring it. In fact, I freaking guarantee that if the Sabres fire DG and bring him in, they will make the playoffs next year. 6 3 2 1 2 Quote
