I see the dysfunction this way. There's talent on display and the work ethic has been there but they look like they've never been coached to win hockey games.

Porous team defense?  Over passing?  No body checks?  Missed shots from the perimeter?  Inconsistent effort?   It is all there today  plus bad goaltending which hasn’t been the case lately with UPL. 
 

Why else would his Ducks be completely outplayed but winning?  

Mainly the way too loose defense and the Jekyll & Hyde game from one period to the next.

If anything my guess is he lost some core strength training due to lower body injury he had last season near the end. Since he hasn't looked quite as confident with his balance or skating. Add to that a wrist injury making stick handling slightly more difficult which will unconsciously get you to slow down. Between those issues and his confidence we see a far less effective Thompson.

UPL having a rough game; as long as he bounces back next game we have nothing to worry about in his case.

Ryan Johnson has played 11:53 after 2 period and is -4.  It will be interesting to see what DG does with him in the next 20 minutes.
