Anyone see what Trevon Diggs did? I reported tweeted during the game "what are you doing on that play?" after Diggs sucked on a play and then this happened:

Football is a lot easier to turn around.  The draft gives you NFL ready players.  Not an excuse for bad decision with the Sabres, but the BIlls were a much easier franchise to turn around. The Sabres are loaded for years and finally have the missing piece, the right coach.

I disagree. It's easier to make player moves in hockey than in football. The Sabres are simply a product of their historical mismanagement. One example is that we had Reinhart in the system. For some inexplicable reason, the GM refused to sign him to an extension that he was willing to sign. Instead, he became a UFA and was dealt. Reinhart ended up being an instrumental player on Cup team, and without question he is one of the upper echelon players in the league. The accumulation of bad decisions has kept this franchise mired in the muck of mediocrity.

In football your first round pick is usually 22-23 years old and ready to play. In hockey your top picks are usually kids who get on the ice with men.  I am not saying the team didn't make terrible GM and coaching decisions in the past, but I think Adams has put a good team together and finally got the right coach.  This team plays with pace and toughness. It lacks consistency, but that will come sometime in the first half of the year.

No it isn't. I can cut players in football from my team and depending on the structure of their contract get massive cap savings or at worst maybe have 1 year with a bad cap. You can't do that in the NHL, see Jeffrey Skinner for an example. He's on Buffalo's cap for another 6 years, Diggs is on Buffalo's cap for 1.

There is much more player movement in hockey than in football. There are more options to pursue talent than in football. Florida Panthers are an example of that.

Florida is a winning team in a state with no income tax. Team sells itself. Sabres made some good moves in the offseason anyway.

no, no there is not. Like factually there is way more in football, just due to sheer numbers.

You have to consider that the rosters are significantly larger.

Stefon Diggs tore his ACL.

I know he's a diva. I know he's a weirdo.

But I always loved me some Diggy Diggs when he wore the red, white, and blue.

I hope he heals up and gets another kick at the can. Just not in KC or Baltimore, please.

He can go to Dallas to play with his brother.

Wanted to give more than a “like” to your post.  Diggs was an integral part of the Bills success while Josh progressed.  The offensive design moved away from him as he was declining, but that doesn’t change the fact that ”he was him” during his Bills years.

We got his best while he was at his best.
The end of our relationship with him sucked and the Texans are worse for it, but I’ll remember Diggs fondly.

It is a pretty stupid question.

And it’s only purpose was most likely to generate this type of clickbait.

Dbag on dbag crime right there.

Edge to Diggs for his riposte: “‘We can talk about’ deez nuts.”

The other factor is the draft. In the NFL you get an entire crop of new talent to walk in and join the roster each season.

In the NHL you draft a crop that is 2-3 years away from a potential roster spot.

NFL can plug holes much easier than NHL teams and as others have said, it’s easier to get rid of players you can cut mid contract.

Good post.  I'm kinda struggling with how to think about Diggs at this point.  He was my favorite guy on the team, and I have his jersey, but I couldn't bring myself to wear it to the game I went to earlier this year and I don't think I'm going to wear it to the next one either.  I'm just so disappointed in the way he conducted himself towards the end here.

He put his grievances, whatever they were, before team success.  And the fact that the Bills were willing to take such a huge cap hit to get rid of him tells me that he must have created an intolerable situation behind the scenes.

He was exactly what they needed when they got him, and I think he made a huge positive difference in JA's development into the Terminator, but he squandered a ton of goodwill with the diva act.  And it wasn't an act -- I think he really was an unbearable, self-absorbed diva.

All good things come to an end.

With that diva act, he’s done it with two teams at this point, right? If the shoe fits…

I no longer accept excuses for this bedraggled franchise. There is no excuse for not qualifying for the playoffs (in an expanded system) in a generation.

I'm not a despairing fan. I recognize that there is a good chance that we will make the playoffs this year. But I'm not going allow excuses to rationalize this generational failure. Our record is our record. Bad hockey decisions made on top of bad decisions resulting where we are now, and where we have been for a generation. That is not acceptable to me. There are plenty of reasons why the many players in this league have no trade clauses to Buffalo in their contracts. It has little to do with the city as it has to do with how our franchise is viewed by outsiders.

Reinhart is one of the best players on a Stanley Cup team He's also an upper echelon player in the league. We had him in our system and had the ability to retain him. The GM decided not to do so. It was not a good decision. No GM makes decisions where all turn out right. However, our GMs have a history of making enough bad decisions that have kept this franchise mired in the muck of mediocrity. No more excuses!

I agree. The team’s failure has been in hiring quality people to run the franchise. The problem is when you let failure last too long then it becomes a cycle you can’t escape. Players like ROR, Eichel, Reinhart were and are great players but they have to be in the right situation, surrounded by quality players who make the team successful. They were not put in that situation here and then timelines don’t match up and players want to move on.

This is probably the first year in a long time that the FO tried to actually build a team that can be competitive night in and out. Why, because Lindy came in with a vision and they followed it.

The only thing that gets Buffalo off no trade lists is winning and stability over a long period. It’s going to take a lot of work.

He pretty much did that the whole time.  I think the fan base tried to blow it off as "he's just kidding" or "he's an attention hound" but I think he was a distraction the whole time he was here.  He helped Josh develop into the QB he is now, so that's good, but it was time to send him packing.

I think a lot of Diggs coolness is a nice little act.   The reality is that he was a me first player, he did it in Minnesota and in Buffalo.

Very talented, but now fading away as a #1 receiver.  His best football is behind him but he could be an excellent #2 if his head allows it.

I am happy to see him gone, and I really like the big potential of Coleman and the calm veteran professionalism of Cooper.

Diggs was good..but he's history.  The receiving room is Shakir, Coleman and Kincaid. Cooper may be a rental for this year only but we'll see. Samuel has always been hurt and hope to get something out of him eventually.

Bills share something with a lot of NFL teams this year..the injury bug. Depth has really stepped up. Yet sometimes, it catches up with teams. One week at a time. The current schedule is Miami and only Miami. Never look past.

Is there a resource that is tracking the proverbial "man games lost" for all NFL teams this season? I could not find one.

The Bills have had some injuries, to be sure. Bernard wound up being not as bad as first feared. Milano is assuredly their biggest loss. Credit to the coaching staff for coaching up and around the loss of such a special player.

Crucially, the Bills have remained quite healthy at the game's most important positions. I won't name them for fear of invoking the wrath of the gods.
