Heres what an experienced GM does. No settling for just OK.

Watch what happens, Gallant will get hired by another club as well. Anyone of note will get sucked up before this club makes a move. I'd love to know who gets the Sabres head coaching job next. Nothing like being afraid to pull the trigger (and the trigger needs to be pulled!)

Patience, we are so close, patience.

We're really not.Β  This team doesn't play the game right. They are weak in front of the net in both zones.Β  They don't play a 200 ft game.Β  They are terrible on special teams.Β  They are the youngest team in a league that does not reward youth; and they are getting younger.Β  Several of the vets brought in to add experience to the lineup are in Rochester.Β  They're not strong on the puck and are not hard to play against.Β Β

This team needs a fundamental shift in itsΒ  direction.

BREAKING

I’m hearing word the race has been called and we have a projection for 13:

Β

It was over after US Thanksgiving. Several on here don't believe in the Sportscentre stat but I do. The odds are so heavily stacked against a club that is out of a playoff position at that point in the season. This club showed me nothing to indicate they were going to turn things around. Not under this current coaching staff. It was even evident in the final couple of preseason games.

Someone has said it here a lot but the team’s inability to get games to OT and get loser points is a huge difference in standings.Β
Take nyi, they have 11 losses on OT/SO, we have 4. They will inevitably fall short because of their failure to take games to OT.

Three wins in a row would be cool, especially since this will be my first in person game this season. Go sabres.

So I lost $100 at the casino after the game and then got bit by a dog and the worst part of my day was sitting through that boring ass game .

Just home from game. The singing of the Anthems were the highlight.Β  This product is defective.Β Β

For once the 10 minute long anthems worked in our favor.Β  Managed to get to our seats before the puck dropped, though it was tight.

Nothing UPL could do on the 1st one.Β  Frustrating that Cozens hit the crossbar ~1 minute before.Β  Was expecting UPL to stop the breakaway as he's been making that save for the last month or so.Β  It was a well placed shot.Β Β

The 1 passer, 1 shooter, 1 forechecker lines from the Chicago game only lasted 1 period.Β  Theoretically, it should work, but at this point in the year chemistry matters.

So frustrated watching them get the puck into the zone with some speed behind them and an opportunity to either drive the puck below the goal line to generate some net front chaos or to drive right past the D towards the net and instead of doing either just curl back towards the blue line to set up a slow developing play that typically results in an intercepted pass taking the puck out of the offensive zone.Β  All the lines do it.Β  That HAS to be the strategy.Β  And whomever came up with it needs to be on the next bus out of town sitting right next to Matt Ellis.

The bloody PP cost them another game. -1 through 2 opportunities.Β  In a game they were only down by 1 goal until they pulled the goalie.Β  People wonder why they can never get a loser point.Β  Pretty sure it has something to do with the same idiot drawing up 6v5 plans that draws up 5v4 plans.Β  Again, for the love of all that's good and Holy, PLEASE relieve Ellis of his coaching duties by the AS break at the latest.

Now that they're finally getting goaltending, they're competitive.Β  Need to stop playing with 1 hand tied behind their backs.Β  (The horrible PP schemes and execution.)

Good to see Cozens get another goal.Β  Maybe he's on the verge of getting out of his slump.

On to CA.Β  As good a place as any to finally get a 3 game winning streak going.

This season was over 20 games in. Β Any team that has a season long win streak of 2 games is not a playoff team. Β

The questions are how do you fix this team and are KA/DG the men to do it?

Nope, they aren't the guys. I don't think that's a question anymore. The talent is there I believe, but it just needs to be coached properly and perhaps a little "tough love" to such a young squad when called upon. I didn't like the way the final 2 games of the preseason looked (and I know it was only preseason but I believe the lineups were almost the starters for this season) They didn't seem to resemble the prior season's club that scored and attacked.Β

I frankly have no clue; I'd fear if Adams was fired the next guy would want to reset the clock again to get "his" guys. And/or they'd go stupid with the assets like Tim Murray.

As for Granato, I love the guy; but I frankly think his role no longer works. He can help you develop players but we need someone who can take this talent and turn it into a playoff team versus a great developmental team that can't seem to quite get over that peak.

Β

How do you fix the team? I'm unsure and terrified by that. I can already just imagine watching us trade Cozens or Power only for them to take off into the stratosphere like everyone else seems to. Or letting Mitts leave after next season and go on to have a great career.Β Β

Actually, on the television feed, it sounded like the microphones were cutting out during Oh Canada. The girls sounded great, but it did appear that the product is indeed defective. Β

@emanΒ @PerreaultForeverΒ you both think Patrick Roy is a capable NHL head coach?Β

Do you think Don Granato is? I bet the Islanders get more points under Roy with the games left than the Sabres do under Granato.

Bottom line is this: The Isles are underachieving and Lou has seen enough. What's the Sabres excuse this season? A good GM doesn't waste time.

If the choice is between keeping Granato or hiring Roy I’ll stand pat. I don’t think Granato is a very good coach and I’ve been saying that since October of last season. I just don’t think Roy is an upgrade.Β
Β

Also the Islanders are a better team than the Sabres and should absolutely get more points than the Sabres. It would be an utter failure on the entire Islanders organization if they didn’t outproduce the Sabres.Β

How do you figure the Islanders are a better team with all the number one draft picks the Sabres accumulated over 13 playoff less seasons? Matthew Barzal is a good one, maybe Bo Horvat and Sebastien Aho. Who else? It isn't that stunning of a lineup. Not sure why you think the Islanders are actually a better club. Lou is dissatisfied and expects more, maybe that is the difference?

Also, in 2013-14, a Roy coached Colorado Avalanche club got 112 points on the season. Not too shabby. The unfortunate part was they were eliminated in the first round. But overall, Roy has a winning record as an NHL head coach in 3 seasons of work. Time will tell, but in my opinion, yes, I think he's capable.

Every game you see flashes, and the talent disparity isn’t that great between the Sabres and the top teams.

Adams hasn’t helped them enough but it is 99.99% a coaching issue right now, it is beyond obvious.

Especially the power play (as so many others on here have noticed) and the line of players coach DG sends out in the final minute when the Sabres are down a goal (again, many on here have noticed that as well, it's "non-sensicle")
