Teams could have had Comrie. Jost, and Bryson for free so why would they have any value in a trade? They don’t.

Injuries could spring Comrie loose.

I will be stunned if we get anything of value for Olofsson. If he was worth anything to other NHL teams he would have been traded months ago.  He is a scoring winger who can't get in the line-up ahead of a sheltered 18 year-old on pace for 9 goals, on a team that struggles to generate offence that has a wretched power-play.  And he makes 4.75 million per year.  That said, if he were to be moved it would not be at all stunning if he scored at a 30 goal or better pace wherever he goes.

Those trades return nothing. Cozens,  Power , Samuelson ..they return possible grit and leadership. Have to trade talent to get talent.

I agree. What I don’t understand is the mentality of those who don’t agree.

They need help in the middle six forwards and top four d pairings. But we don’t want to expend what it takes to get players who are good enough to be in those positions. Makes no sense.

If anyone thinks the top six and top four we have now will be here when this team goes deep in the playoffs, you are wrong. Same goes for a couple picks and prospects.

Yes, I believe I do. Tanev is not afraid to block a shot and plays hard. By trading one of the longtime core players you show that no one is safe if they can't play well. Rosén will not have a spot on the team. And I believe that is the price to pay if we want to take him in front of other teams, to show that we are serious.

Your offer is about equal to what the Sens offered Arizona for Chychrun last year at the deadline which was a conditional 1st, conditional second and a second.  In addition to that, Chychrun a.) is in his prime, and b.) had term on the contract.  Tanev - neither.
First of all, Calgary is climbing in the standings, and at this time, not a seller. Second, Tanev is a nice idea in free agency this summer, where you don’t need to trade assets, just overpay. Third, I think the assumption in OPs thread is the Sabres are selling assets, not buying rentals to help them make the playoffs. Playoffs?

PP specialist. Proven goal scorer. Could help a contender. 5-7th round pick.

I don't believe anyone gets moved.

KA is not trading any of the young players and nobody else has any value on the market.

With one exception...  beleive a western Canadian team will make a substantial offer for Savoie.

Adams keeps saying on WGR that he believes this will all work itself out, the man is completely clueless imo. Something is clearly not right when your entire roster aside from 2 players has regressed. He won't do a thing but if he was smart (hockey smart) which he doesn't appear to be then he'd trade Mittlestadt for a top 4 defensemen because there is no way in hell I'm giving that guy another 7+M contract for what he brings, he's a solid complimentary player but his value is never going to be higher than right now and if we truly want a top 4 Dman I think he's the player who can help get us 1, if it takes a Savoie or our 1st to help bring said player here then you throw that in as well depending on the player but Adams refusues to give up picks and prospects or mess with this core of players in general so it will be more of the same until this staff is let go unfortunately.

Adams should be a seller at the deadline with how his roster has performed mid-way through this season.  If he makes a minor move or two to pick up picks/depth it's an indication he thinks the roster is fine to prove what he's said on GR is how he believes.

If they make a bold move to acquire a player, then OK.  Then it's on them to go push for the playoffs and shows he believes they needed a spark.

And if they sit tight on all players, pending UFAs and all prospects, it's because he's under no pressure to win.  That may be the most tell-tale sign ownership is apathetic.  Keeping Granato around just affirms that.

I'm not calling for anything short-sighted, but it's apparent a malaise has settled over this franchise (apologies to Jimmy Carter) and those in charge have chosen to do as little as possible.

He is the perfect example of a guy who is smoke and mirrors that a shrewd GM would get rid of while he still had value before everyone else in the league caught on.

I wrote in my first post that that's what we could give if Tanev is willing to sign for two years at reasonable cap hit! No way we should pay that for a rental.

And if a player that the team needs is on the market, I think that we should try to get that player, no matter if it is trade deadline or off season. If he is willing to sign for some years in Buffalo, go for it!

At the deadline, teams can expand the roster beyond 23 men.  Comrie as a team's 3rd goalie as an insurance policy could bring something when he can be the 3rd wheel without effecting the rest of a team's roster.  Nobody was bumping a rostered player out of their lineup for a guy that hadn't won a game in 2 or so months.

Personally, see Olofsson and Comrie getting traded away, likely for draft picks.

And expect another Greenway type player brought it for a prospect (& maybe a pick).

Also, expect we'll be reading stories after the deadline about how Adams was THIS CLOSE to bringing in a true top 4 D-man, but just couldn't QUITE get it done.

Would like to be surprised by what Adams does bring in at the trade deadline, but after 3 years of nothing big happening on what used to be one of the funnest days of the year, many moons ago, am expecting year 4 of nothing big happening.

He already has shown thats what he believes.... We have not made a trade, if we wait until the deadline the playoffs will be out of reach since they're almost out of reach at this stage unless we go on a major run like the Canucks but nothing in our game shows this is even possible or what to expect.

We will know Adams is serious about the playoffs for an upcoming new season when he trades a prospect for a current established player.

Therefore, Girgensons, Okposo, and Eric Johnson are useful for teams needing playoff depth.  Olofsson is useful to a team with a weak power play and with the defencive depth to cover for his liabilities.  (To be fair, he has improved on that this season.)

Half of this team's current roster should be available. The ones I see moving forward with the Sabres:

Levi, UPL, Tage, Tuch, , Skinner, Cozens, Quinn, Peterka, Mitts, Dahlin, R. Johnson, Samuelsson, Clifton.

If the following want to pursue a Cuo at the deadline I have no issue with it:

Z, KO, Joki, EJ, VO, Comrie

That's just my opinion is all.

Fantasy scenario:

1) Adams finds a team to take Skinner and his contract.

2) Adams hires his buddy Brindamour since Carolina’s owner doesn’t want to pay him fair value.

**Dont ruin this for me by saying it will never happen😁

I've seen rumors of #2.

I’m of the belief that if any team in the NHL thought Zemgus had value he’d be elsewhere. It’s not quite the concept of Johan Larsson, who we were told we would deeply regret not signing and then promptly washed out of the league, but he’s pretty close to being there.

Zegras and his soon to be new buddy Gauthier all next season:

Trade anybody. Definitely should be sellers but there's not much on the roster anybody will want for a playoff run. Johnson and maybe Okposo might be in demand, especially if we eat salary for a cap crunch team(s). You're not getting anything for your waiver guys and/or your softies like Olofsson. Girgs has been up many times as a pending UFA but never gets moved so I doubt it happens now.

Good point on Comrie. Now I do expect him to be moved for "Future Considerations".
That and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Vancouver had a season last year like the one the Sabres are having this year.  Their GM started to fix the roster last year after the New Year.  This is what he did to help repair his roster with a solid young core but needed defensive and goaltending help.

Last season's moves

1/30/23 Traded Bo Horvat to the NYI for Anthony Beauvilier, prospect Aatu Raty, and a 1st in 2023.  Deadline: moves out D Stillman (to us) and Schenn (for a 3rd) and Lazar (for a 4th). Traded D replaced with Hronek (from Det) plus a 4th for the NYI 1st and a 2nd.  Hronek had another year on his contract.

Offseason moves

Traded Tanner Pearson and a 3rd to Mon for veteran backup G Casey DeSmith (saving 1.5 mill in cap in the process).

Signed D Ian Cole (1 year 3 mill), D Carson Soucy (3yrs 9.75), C Theodor Blueger (1yr  1.9 mil), C Pius Suter (2yr 3.2 mill)

In-Season moves

10/8/2023 - acquired Sam Lafferty (from Tor) for a 5th

11/30/2023 - Acquired Zadorov for and 3rd (2026) and a 5th

When all was said and done, Van's GM turned over 2/3 of his D group, added an excellent backup goalie to pair with his stud young goalie, and added depth to his forward group, especially down the middle.

There is no reason that KA can't be a buyer and a seller during this trade deadline.  There are players with term we can bring in (like Greenway last year) that can make us better this season and in the future and we can start unloading some of the deadwood on the roster.

Trading Joki and VO are at the top of my list.  I might even trade Krebs.  I'm also taking offers on KO, EJ and Z.  Comrie, Jost, Bryson and Stillman are also available but I doubt we'll get any takers.  I'm also entertaining offers for Savoie, Kulich, Östlund, and Rosen if a top 4 D with term is coming back. (I'm only trading a max of 2 of those 4 prospects).

I'm looking for 1 top 9 center and 2 top 4 D.    DG recently moved Greenway to center and I'm intrigued by the idea of him anchoring the 4th line next season.
