KansasPat Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 This is where the demons are exorcised. The franchise's recent downswing -- #%^$#!, one could say it almost lost us the team for good -- started when Hasek let in a weak wrister from Darius Kasparitis (of all people!) beat us in Game 7 of the 2001 playoffs. Remember, we win that game, we play Jersey, and we smoked Jersey in the regular season that year. Do we beat Colorado in the finals? It would've been a hell of a series. But that soft goal, combined with Dom's efforts to get out of Buffalo ... well, what's that they say about payback? It's time to make Dom our bitch tomorrow. To hell with what he's done for us in the past. He needs to be humilated, made another speedbump in our chase for glory, which will undoubtedly end with us hoisting Lord Stanley's Cup. I, for one, will not be waxing wistfully over his return to Buffalo for a playoff game. I only want to pummel the SOB.

No, it picked up speed with that, but it STARTED with the criminals' decision to fork with Peca in contract negotiations. I believed then, I believe today, and I expect to ALWAYS believe that the Sabres WOULD have carried around Lord Stanley's Chalice in 2001 had the Sabres signed Peca or at least traded him for something that season. That said, the Peca trade is providing some MAJOR components to this year's run. Will the Sabres get the Trophy that fate denied them 5 years ago? I don't know. But I am enjoying every single step of this waltz towards the glowing silver Cup. (Yes, it really does glow.)
KansasPat Posted May 11, 2006 Author Report Posted May 11, 2006 Funny you mention Peca, and I agree with you 100 percent with what you said. Despite my moniker, I spent much of the last seven years in Southern California. In 2001, I went to see the Sabres play the Ducks. National anthem is being sung, and while there's this pause between "land of the free ... home of the brave.", I shout out "SIGN PECA!" You could hear it through the whole arena. The Ducks fans didn't have a clue as to what I was saying, the Sabres fans around me gave a chuckle mixed with disparagement and my wife wanted to kill me.

I forgot to say "welcome aboard" to the board. So, welcome aboard!
mediumishot Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 forget hasek, i want emery, hes been one of the best players on our team:)
ddaryl Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I wouldn't mind beating Hasek in game 4 to close the series. It would bring some closure to that era IMO.
zow2 Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I'd like to see Hasek too. However, Emery has only allowed 2 and 3 goals the last two games so you really can't fault him if you're Ottawa. Playing Hasek might not be in their best interests since reports are that he is still favoring his right side. Not good if you're a goalie!
LabattBlue Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I don't want to see Hasek at all. Let him continue rubbing ben-gay on his groin all the way back to the Czech Rebubplic as he fades away into retirement..
deluca67 Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 How could they even think of playing Hasek after being on the shelf for months? Even if he was 100% healthy?
blugold43 Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 i think they'd be crazy to throw hasek out there...it'd be like dripping blood in the pirrhana tank
Spandrel Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 At this point, there is no reason to throw Hasek out there. They chose not to sign anyone to back Emery up, and they have to live with that decision. Emery was bailed out last night by a lot of fortunate breaks, but it wasn't his fault that the Sabres had more scoring chances in the game despite fewer shots on goal.
