French Collection Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 Oh well, he was acquired for free. He seemed to be more effective last year, you could say that for most of the lineup as well. Comrie is probably next. 1 Quote
Taro T Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 (edited) Interesting point in time for this team. When Girgensons comes back, if they slay the 3 headed monster rather than waiving Robinson, this team will have a legit NHLer in the AHL at F, D, and G. (Presuming Jost and Comrie both clear waivers.) Been a long time since that was the case. (And, did not say they have GOOD NHLers in the A; merely that they have legit NHLers down there.) Can't recall when they had a legit netminding NHLer in the AHL. Would expect it was in THE lockout year. But, not sure people were convinced Miller was a legit NHLer at that point. kas23 Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 I hope this makes a point. Another drubbing, waiver another one. Looks like KA is losing patience. Quote

This has nothing to do with the loss. It has to do with Greenway (and Quinn?) getting activated while the league's roster freeze was on. Everybody knew a body had to go once the roster freeze ended. 4 1 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 Ya, I was surprised we signed him to the deal we did as he didn't bring what we needed in the bottom 6 but that's what we do. So Quinn in Jost out no big shock. The shock was why Granato thought making him emergency 1C was a good idea in any universe but that's Granato. Robinson doesn't bring much but he's better as a bottom 6 than Jost. 3 1 Quote
pi2000 Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 Kudos to KA for not sending R. Johnson down to Roch, he deserves to play. Comrie might be begging for his release soon. 3 Quote

GM Sheevyn gave him the opportunity for a final audition to other GMs around the league before the inevitable. And while he gave the lineup a boost and a versatile forward last season, this season it's been mostly invisible sub-40% faceoff Jost. Part of the reason why he didn't fit on a championship-caliber Avs roster and a playoff-caliber Wild roster in the last couple seasons. 1 Quote
Mustache of God Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 This was another horrible off-season resigning by GMKA. He should have brought in some fresh blood at the beginning of the year. 1 1 Quote

Philly got Hathaway for 2.3 as an example of what would have been better for us and what we needed. 1 Quote

It’s even more egregious when you look at the fact he signed KO and Zemgus to extensions at the same time. It’s not like they had Kyle or Z on the last year of a long term agreement, and you are stuck with a higher AAV on the 4th line. He could have extricated himself from all three but did the opposite. How many teams have forwards #10-13 making $8m. Most are made up of jags or players like Krebs on an entry level contract of $750-$1.0m. Agree, he should have pursued a UFA that could have pushed for third line minutes and if not, contributed on the fourth. Domi, Suter, Sprong, Blueger to add a few more to the Hathaway idea. 3 Quote

HumanSlinky39 Posted December 29, 2023 Report Posted December 29, 2023 Meh. He was a useful dumpster dive last year providing some decent bottom 6 minutes. But he's been dreadful this year. Another JAG. Quote

Definitely a guy they could have used. Just for clarity, the reason I keep mentioning Hathaway (besides the fact he'd fill a need) is he signed LATE in free agency. Lots of teams either passed on him and/or wouldn't meet his price> I cannot believe Philly (projected to be a bottom feeder) was high on his list. He took the best money he could get as he got worried. Have to believe he'd have taken an offer from a young (and projected to be up and coming) Buffalo as a result of that. Heck Boston signed Heinen from a PTO and even he's far better than Jost was. Quote
shrader Posted December 29, 2023 Report Posted December 29, 2023 I bet he winds up in Columbus. Quote
Pimlach Posted December 29, 2023 Report Posted December 29, 2023 He contributed last year, but you could see his role was an easy spot to improve upon. But they didn’t. Best wishes to him. Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted December 29, 2023 Report Posted December 29, 2023 The genius KA waives a 3rd player who he retained/re-signed who any observer of the Sabres knew should have been sent packing this off-season. The Sabres are now paying over $5 mill to Jost, Bryson and Stillman to play for the Amerks. That’s $5 mill that could have been used on players who could have improved the roster. Just further evidence that Adams has no idea how to build a championship roster. Add those three to the retention of Z and KO and you have to wonder if this team will ever turn the corner under its current leadership. 4 1 Quote
