If you are watching Sweden and want to try find Wahlberg, just look for the big  guy in yellow standing in front of the other teams net

Sabres will have to break him of that habit.

Breaking News: Noah Östlund is good at hockey.

We shall see.

Sweden up 5-2 in the 3rd. Östlund with a goal and assist (maybe 2) in the 3rd period to help break it open.

Lekkermaki-Östlund-Wahlberg line dominating every shift they are on.

The sequence that started the Östlund breakaway goal was funny as he fell while pursuing the puck along the half wall in his offensive end, slid into the boards, and watched as the Czechs took off in the other direction. In getting back into the play, Östlund only got as far as center ice before the Swedes regained control in their own end and #9 hit him with that beautiful stretch pass to send him in on the breakaway. That play doesn’t happen if Östlund hadn’t tripped and was delayed getting back into the play.

Yeah it’s difficult reading everyone creaming in their jeans about these kids given the state of the NHL team.  Also, we’ve been down this road more than I care to remember with players prospects at world juniors.  Almost all our kids dominate, after the tourney, not so mush.

The Sabres have some really great young and upcoming players. Now all we need is a better coach to draw it out of these players!

It’s not the coach

No, we need a better mix of players

The wjc is merely a tradable assets tournament as far as the sabres are concerned

Because every team has a guy they can point to who does well in a kids tournament. Literally every team - this isn’t a substantial avenue for the improvement we need, the ground we need to make up. None of it matters a lick if the GM doesn’t want to/ isn’t capable of building an actual team

we are conditioned to feel these performances don’t matter because..they definitively don’t: not as a means for improvement, not with the means of operation we’ve seen. Proof has been in the pudding for a decade.

Build a team.

Trailing Finland 2-0, Kulich buries a cross-ice pass from the right circle on the powerplay. But, he takes a knee-on-knee on his next shift and headed back to the bench. Didn't leave the ice early that I saw. End of 1 in the early semifinal.

I think that's the bronze medal game, they already lost in the semis to sweden.  that shot was a laser!  here's the video

Kulich likes the big moments, scores big goals in important moments

We know this guy is a sniper, and it might take a bit more time for him to be ready to play NHL level, but you have to be attracted to his leadership.

What I really like is that he put the team on his shoulders.  He wore the C well.  His team medaled and make an amazing rally.
