CallawaySabres Posted December 5, 2023 Report Posted December 5, 2023 Sooooo, we’ll be 12 points out of 8th when theses guys all come back, sweet. Quote
Carmel Corn Posted December 5, 2023 Report Posted December 5, 2023 I hope that Dahlin can somehow survive the rest of this month.....DG will use and abuse him to help keep the team competitive in games where we are short-handed, which worries me about how he will hold up over time. 2 2 Quote

Believer Posted December 5, 2023 Report Posted December 5, 2023 What is unbelievable is Pegula deludes himself in believing he is the best person to lead hockey operations… KA and DG would be canned after this season by an experienced hockey executive… if the owner were serious about winning. Quote

Expand It’s two exceptionally marginal forwards when it comes to winning games, Greenway and Girgensons, and a notable absence in Tuch. But at least a few injuries to higher level guys are always expected. Thompson is back. It’s a manageable injury load for a team with proper depth, an expected amount league relative. News is fine. 1 Quote

And every team has players like them whose job is to give useful minutes, pay attention to details, and not embarrass themselves. Quote

Expand I honestly do not think they are very good. Isn’t Girgensons someone we should have moved on from in the offseason? From all my years of hockey my sense is if you are down a Girgensons and a Greenway (and a Tuch) you should consider yourself par for the course on the expected injury front. We were luckier last year, a little more unlucky this year..it’s all around the norm. If your strategy to make the playoffs is to hope for luck in this area and you don’t have the depth to overcome a more likely injury result, your strategy stinks. Teams get injuries. Expand Defensively sound. And add in the willingness to step into any scrum and protect any and all of your teammates. Maybe throw a tone-setting check once in awhile. 1 Quote

Expand With respect to injuries, it looks like GMKA planned on getting lucky with the forwards again, which was monumentally short-sighted because the guys in Rochester are not ready to even fill in for a few games with a regular NHL shift. If I had my druthers, Krebs and the other youngsters would be in Rochester or Juniors, a good veteran would be paired with Power, Okposo would be the 13th forward, and Girgensons and Greenway would be on the 4th line with competent veterans being 4C (also a face-off specialist) and filling in the rest of the top 9. That line-ups can survive slightly worse than ordinary injury luck at forward. 1 Quote
Sidc3000 Posted December 5, 2023 Report Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) I’d say those timelines were being very optimistic now that they put Tuch and Greenway on IR Edited December 5, 2023 by Sidc3000 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted December 5, 2023 Report Posted December 5, 2023 Given Benson's arrival and barring any trades, I hold out hope that we'll see this lineup for at least 1 game in January. Not gritty, but proven pair combos (Quinn-Cozens, Skinner-TNT, Mitts-anyone) while Quinn gets back up to speed (and maybe jumpstarts Cozens). Skinner - TNT - Tuch Peterka - Mitts - Greenway Benson - Cozens - Quinn Girgensons - Krebs - Rousek Quote
