Yeah, well, have fun with that.

On the one hand, it feels like the Sabres "lost a competition" by not signing him; on the other, the record of other players who had the same surgery extending their careers is pretty dismal.

Wouldn’t have been a good signing for the Sabres but it’s a bad look for Adams that he wasn’t able to convince Kane to join the team.

Been saying all along, Kane's camp was floating the Sabres to stoke interest in Patrick. I doubted Adams or Granato ever wanted him. Made no sense.

As promo said, Buffalo was always going to be the bridesmaid, heck maybe even just in the bridal party.  Never an intention on signing here.  Maybe he’ll defy the odds and become the first NHL player to have this surgery and play meaningfully hockey after.

Kane obviously “doesn’t want to be here” with this signing.  I hope the Sabres FO remembers this over the summer and doesn’t sign him.

He would have been a good depth piece to add this year to help on the PP and add some experience, but there should be better players available over the summer.

Not surprising.   Had he signed with Buffalo, that would have sold a few more tickets, but I would prefer to see a more physical forward in his prime.  Yes, that would require a trade vs. signing a UFA Kane, which remains to be seen if GMKA will do his job or nothing (as usual).

ok. Time to find someone else to come in and play for us. We need some more depth.

We coulda had Justin Bailey but the Sharks just signed him.

Did he even try?

Yeah, mixed feelings here too.

Would have been somewhat comforting to hear that he had some sort of tryout with the team to evaluate his skating, and he chose elsewhere because of our spot in the standings.  At least we would have known we were a legit option for him.

Who? If Patrick Kane doesn’tu want to sign with the Sabres, who would want to sign with them? Could he have concerns about the Sabres that we don’t know about?

There are a lot of scenarios here

  • Didn't want to go to Buffalo since they're struggling
  • Knows this might be his last hockey contract so took the most money
  • Buffalo wasn't interested enough or didn't offer much
  • Didn't think he'd crack the top-6 in Buffalo, unlike Detroit (? I have no idea what Detroit looks like this year)
  • Just doesn't like Buffalo pizza after eating deep dish (he is hitting all the "pizza" towns though, Chicago, NYC, and now Detroit)

That made me laugh. He would absolutely crack the top 6 if he comes anywhere close to what he use to play like. The Ref Wings are 10th in the league so it could be that they are better than the Sabres.

pizza pickup GIF by Little Caesars

TIL the owner of the Red Wings also founded Little Caesars. huh.

In any case, Detroit has their own style pizza (obvs you know this Doohickie), it's a little thicker than Buffalo, Focaccia crust, and usually square. It's probably descendant of Sicilian.
