I was watching on TV and thought I heard something unusual with O Canada.  Then the anthem singer's poor performance was dwarfed by the Sabres' poor performance in the first period that followed.

They should do away with national anthems at corporate events anyways

In Winnipeg they yell out TRUE NORTH (the corporation) during the true north strong and free line. Assuredly within the spirit of a national anthem.

If a professional sporting event is a corporate event then no.

Part of our culture is, or perhaps was, being patriotic and taking a moment to be thankful for what we have when in a large assembly.

I would miss it.  I just don't see any problem with it.

The fact that Buffalo has both anthems sung and employs less than inspiring long winded singers with no background music makes it doubly cringeworthy and uninspiring. There must be a more enthusiastic singer in Buffalo who could be accompanied by the organ music.

The brilliant, bombastic Henry Pendleton. The best anthem singer in Sabres history? It begins and ends with Hank.

I also like that he just..sings it. Aside from a *touch* on “Glorious” during “glorious and free”, there’s no unnecessary frill. It’s about the words, presented in a beautiful voice. It’s not *about* the voice and range.
