Archie Lee Posted November 2, 2023 Report Posted November 2, 2023 Thanks. I didn’t know the 25% max on 2nd retention. Quote

Yep. 50% of the remaining 50% is 25% of the original contract. Another 50% of the original 100% would have the guy playing for the other team for free. Which, as @LGR4GM points out, is not allowed per the CBA. The CBA also wouldn't allow another 50% of the remaining 25% to be retained in a 3rd trade. Edited November 2, 2023 by Taro T 1 Quote

Oh... so if we got Leblanc and wanted to trade him, we could retain 50% also and his salary would be just over $1 million for the other (third) team? Interesting concept. Quote

Interesting concept. Yes, third party team would get VO or Lebanc for 1/4 of their $, which brings way more teams into play. Cap hit would be just over $1M instead of $4M, which only a couple of teams can take. Retaining on two guys is similar to a buy out but you get an asset back. The league would probably close this loophole after this deal. 1 Quote
matter2003 Posted November 2, 2023 Report Posted November 2, 2023 After Biro's performance yesterday, pretty large. Quote
Radar Posted November 2, 2023 Report Posted November 2, 2023 I wonder sometimes does VO just not care enough? Great shot, little effort? Quote
