PromoTheRobot Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 From the newspapers, to the tv commetators, to the fans on message boards, everyone is offering excuses as to why the Sens are down 0-2. They can't face the fact that the Sabres are every but as good as the Senators, except the Sabres want it more. The Senators are apoplectic because the Sabres aren't in awe of their greatness. Now they don't know what to do. PTR
apuszczalowski Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Their coach came out and said the Senators are making Ryan Miller look like a great goalie, No, Miller is making your team look like a bunch of overpayed/overhyped underachievers
BRH Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 It must be all those Stanley Cups Ottawa's won in the last few years that blinds them to reality. Oh wait.
MartyHavlatismyGOD Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I'm glad to see that this board has its fair share of Buffalo Fans that know what they are talking about.... and then those that should go back to Football
inkman Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I'm glad to see that this board has its fair share of Buffalo Fans that know what they are talking about.... and then those that should go back to Football Well, what is your take on the series after 2 games? Am I supposed to hurl some insult about curling here? :)
Rabbit151 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I'll tell you one thing. It's awfully nice to see some of the smugness wiped away from certain Senators. Spezza in particular. I really liked this kids skills a couple of years ago. Picked him in a play-off pool or two in the past. Not this year. I think he plays more like a european than a canuck. He seems too soft for the play-offs. That aside, the more interviews I see with this guy, the more unlike-able i find him. He seems way too smug. I could be wrong, maybe he's just having a lot of fun. Ottawa guy, Havlatismygod, what's your take? He seemed pretty darn bitter in the interview last night when he pointed out how lucky Miller was to stop that late breakaway.
MartyHavlatismyGOD Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 He seemed pretty darn bitter in the interview last night when he pointed out how lucky Miller was to stop that late breakaway. Miller and him have an ongoing rivalry of sorts, they have faced off a lot in the AHL and OHL(i think), I know they have in the AHL at the very least. Well, what is your take on the series after 2 games? Am I supposed to hurl some insult about curling here? My take on the series is that it is Far from Over. Buffalo imploded in games three and four last series while they were outplaying the flyers, they could very well do the same thing against a Senator's team that has done everything right against them except score the last goal. This series is very reminiscient of the Carolina///Montreal Series - Montreal was badly outplayed, but kept themselves alive on a hot goalie, and by capitalizing on every single Carolina mistake. You can only play that way so long before it catches up to you. But now, we will see if the Sens are the team that the Canadian Media picked them to be at the start of the season - see if they do have that resiliance, or if they are just a bunch of pretenders. It will make for an interesting finish to the series either way. I'd hope that if Alfie doesnt step it up, he gets traded for a goal tender. I personally don't mind Spezza, i've met him on a few Occasions, once when My girlfriends sister was Dating matt Spezza in Lindsay (my home town), and once when he came to the bar that i work at in Ottawa. The thing that comes to my mind when i think about him, is that he is an extremely immature player. He always tries to make the fancy play, and i really wish he'd take some notes from Joe Thornton, because he has the same type of vision, maybe even better. Also the man is as dumb as a rock.
GGM Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Well, what is your take on the series after 2 games? Am I supposed to hurl some insult about curling here? :) No ripping on curling! I love watching that sport.

It will make for an interesting finish to the series either way. If and that is a big IF, Ottawa can get any kind of goaltending, I'll give them a shot. As it stands, Emery is just not good. He gets WAY out of position and leaves gaping holes to pick from. Maybe he can piece back together his game and the Sens can limit Buffalo's chances. Otherwise it will be over sooner rather than later.

You can only play that way so long before it catches up to you. The series is by no means over ... Ill admit that even as a Sabres fan ... The Sens are a very good team and anything is possible but please refrain from comparisons that dont at all correspond ... Buffalo may seem like they "imploded" in games 3 and 4 vs Philly but thats not true. The Sabres played well enough to win game 3, but didnt get the bounces (i.e. Frosberg's fluky goals) and game 4, Miller let in the weak shot vs Umberger. And dont say that this series is reminiscient of the Carolina/Montreal series. The Sabres are NOT and I repeat NOT Montreal! ... Dont ever disrespect this Sabres team like that. The Sabres may be getting outplayed in areas of the box score, but they are finishin ahead in the only one that matters ... GOALS! Unless the Sens pull Emery in favor of a "Cam Ward"like Morrison, this series has no correlation to the Car/Mont one!
Stoner Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I personally don't mind Spezza, i've met him on a few Occasions, once when My girlfriends sister was Dating matt Spezza... That's nothing. My cousin's daughter goes to school with a girl whose aunt cuts Jason Pominville's girlfriend's hair.
MartyHavlatismyGOD Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 The Sabres played well enough to win game 3, but didnt get the bounces Sens played well enough to win game 2 but didnt get the bounces? what is the difference??? Second of all, there is a big difference in that Carolina was going HOME down two, the Sens are going AWAY down 0-2. BIGGGGG DIFFERENCE! I'm glad to see that you have had your daily crack intake... In case you didnt realize. Carolina finished the season 2nd in the East, while Montreal finished 7th MEANING, Carolina had home advantage in the first two games, and went to the Bell center to win the next two.
shrader Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Miller and him have an ongoing rivalry of sorts, they have faced off a lot in the AHL and OHL(i think), I know they have in the AHL at the very least. Some minor nitpicking: Miller went to Michigan State. He never played in the OHL.

Carolina finished the season 2nd in the East, while Montreal finished 7th MEANING, Carolina had home advantage in the first two games, and went to the Bell center to win the next two. If the Senators vaunted D knew how to defense a 2 on 1, maybe I would agree with your first statement. The Huricanes finished 19 points ahead of the Canadians, swept them in the season series, and pulled Gerber. Ottawa finished only 3 points ahead of Buffalo, struggled with them at the end of the season, and are sticking with Emery. So the Canes-Sens analogy is weak at best. And for someone who called out the "Football" posters on this board, your crack putdown was uncalled for. You've been given a lot of respect on this board; I imagine if your team was down 2-0 to Philadelphia, you wouldn't experience the same respect on the Flyers board.
MartyHavlatismyGOD Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 How is the Crack comment uncalled for? To think that the Canes - who were at the top of the conference all season long did not have home field advantage in the first round is a bandwagon fans-mistake

You can only play that way so long before it catches up to you. While I might quibble with the "imploded" and "badly outplayed" characterizations, I must agree that it is indeed far from over. Ottawa is explosive on offense and extremely effective on defense in their zone -- there's a reason our PP (and our 5-on-5 forechecking) has been completely ineffective. It's going to take another great effort to win game 3, let alone game 4, so I hope nobody is just assuming that we are going to sail through the next 2 games just b/c we're at home. Ottawa is going to outshoot us in probably every game. I'm OK with that, but we can't play 80% of the game in our end as we did last night and expect to keep winning. However, I do believe that if we match Ottawa's intensity in game 3 and if Miller stays in the zone, we will win. When Miller is on his game, which he was for most of the season (and just about all of it prior to the olympics), he's a top 3 NHL goalie.

You really want to call out his mistake like that?
MartyHavlatismyGOD Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Just in case you don't know - we here in Canada have this little thing we like to refer to as "SARCASM"
rickshaw Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I'm glad to see that this board has its fair share of Buffalo Fans that know what they are talking about.... and then those that should go back to Football I laugh when I read the names of some posters. Apparently this fan goes to the Church of Hockey Players who kick at other hockey players with their skates on. What a role model. What a god.
jad1 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Just in case you don't know - we here in Canada have this little thing we like to refer to as "SARCASM" Cool, just trying to get the ground rules set here. By the way your team is doing a super job! Down 2-0, but OUTSHOOTING the Sabres by such a huge margin! For fans of a team so content with moral victories, well, you guys much just be happy as a pig in sh*t at how this series is turning out. Brings back the good ol' days of Alexi Yashin. /SARCASM off <_<
Taro T Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 So is Morrison ready to become Ward? That was the difference in Carolina's series... There was one other event in that series that dramatically changed the fortunes of the teams. That was Koivu going down with the eye injury. When he went down a lot of the heart and talent of the Montreal team was lost with him.
