Flashsabre Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 3 hours ago, LGR4GM said: A couple thoughts: 1) the more you watch Komarov the more you see there is something really there. He directs traffic while defending the rush and in the defensive zone. Uses his anticipation and stick to break up many rushes and chances. He thinks the game as a complete dman. 2) Savoie is playing a much more complete game. He is playing centre and his defensive positioning and awareness are very noticeable. He doesn’t cheat for offence. Very good brain for the game. I compare him against Firkus who I question his brain when he has to think with the puck on his stick. Great talent but much like Cozens, Firkus struggles when he has to think and be a playmaker. 3) I agree that outside of Levi and Johnson, no other Amerks should be pencilled in to the Sabres lineup but for those watching one game and making decisions on prospects might want to expand the sample size. 4) whether it be pick 11 or any of the prospects, everything should be on the table for acquiring the right pieces to put this team into a playoff contender. 5 Quote
JohnC Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 @LGR4GM, from a style of play does Savoie resemble Briere at all? Quote

Briere spent a lot of time driving the net and playing behind the goal line. Obviously their stature is similar but I haven’t seen enough of Savoie. The one thing that made Danny standout, however was his drive and fearlessness. That was something that endeared him to Drury. They both hated losing. It’s something you can’t coach and it’s something that we can only hope Savoie emulates. 6 Quote
Archie Lee Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 One thing to remember about Briere, his first good NHL season was the year he turned 24. 3 1 Quote
thewookie1 Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 Savoie has slowly become the only “untouchable” non NHL prospect this year. Kulich’s playoffs were lackluster as was Rosen. Östlund and Wahlberg are still raw. If Savoie actually wins the WHL title with his team he’d become the first Sabres prospect to actually win their youth league championship in quite some time. So effectively he isn’t available for a rental or 3rd liner 1 1 Quote
Flashsabre Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 There are similarities between Briere and Savoie but Savoie doesn’t play as close to the net as Briere did. Briere would get a ton of goals from being right tight to the net and flipping pucks up or banging it in. Savoie’s game isn’t the same in that regard. Quote

The Sabres could definitely use a player who has the ability to hover around the net and bang loose pucks in. Surprisingly, although Benson hasn't scored many goals, he is one of our best players around the net. 1 Quote

Have the Sabres ever FED this guy with prospects to wax poetic about..im not even joking- there wouldn’t be a better spot in the nhl over the last decade for this type of analyst. Remora like 1 Quote

But was a key player is my concern. Komarov was an essential player to that Championship. He was Quebec’s 2nd leading D scorer and their leading goal scorer by a defenseman in the regular season. He had a strong playoff as well. This season he exploded once he was traded. He had 50 points in 38 games with Drummondville. He is having a very good playoff as well. Drummondville is up 2-0 in the Q finals. He was the Q D of the Year this past season (Bouchard Award - the Q’s Norris). Edited May 12 by GASabresIUFAN 1 Quote

No one else looks ready to make the jump. The Amerks should be fun to watch though. Presuming most of the UFA's come back, yes, they should be. But a LOT of that team can go where they choose this off-season. Quote

Europe, other AHL squads, see if they can get 2 way contracts on bad teams to have a shot at finally living out their dream. Lots of options, though a lot of them claimed to have liked playing in Ra-cha-cha, so there is that. Would expect finding out who Appert's replacement is will go a long way towards finding how much of that team is back. 1 Quote
