I had tickets or vouchers for two Zeppelin concerts that never happened.

The first would have been around 77/78 and I thought someone had a bike accident although I’m not 100% sure. The second was when Bonham died which I think was around 80.

I know others who were in the same situation. They're all 10 years older than me but it was common to hear the stories at parties

I'm in the same boat. When I tell the story, people wonder if I still have the tickets - heck no, I was a student and returned them for the $20/$25 they cost

I probably haven't listened to this in 4 decades.  It's a much better song than I remember.

I saw Iron Maiden in the Aud in maybe ‘85. The opening act was supposed to be Twisted Sister, but due to a death in the family they cancelled. Talas must have been notified that day and they jumped in and opened up instead.

Yep. I was pissed because for the first concert,  I bought 10 tickets and lost the $25 service charge($2.50 per ticket) For a high school senior making $2.75 an hour it was a big deal.

King Buffalo is a good Rochester band with a Buffalo name. On a side note, I've noticed a lot of kids at the school I work at wearing Cannibal Corpse shirts. Doubting many of them have actually heard them though.

I saw a dude at the Bills game Sunday wearing a Cannibal Corpse t-shirt. And from the looks of him, I'm pretty sure he's listened to them.

I was going to the 77 concert. It was Plant’s 5 year old son who died. I remember that part like yesterday.

But somehow had it in my head that he drowned (probably a rumor), but he had some stomach virus of some sort.

The Bonham death was another awful tragedy.

Wow! That’s fascinating stuff. So Harvey was from Buffalo? (Yeah, can’t brag about that connection anymore)

Are you referring to the Zeppelin concert on the tour during which Robert Plant’s son drowned (seems like a few days or couple of weeks prior)? I had tickets to that concert. So sad.

Being the same age as U2 (I am basically saddled in the middle of the four), also being Irish from both parents, and growing up in Buffalo, I have always felt a kinship with the band. Music of my life. But something about their music often reminded me of my life in Buffalo. Can’t really explain it.

You’re going to be jealous about this French. I was at the U2 stage one show in 1980. They did open for another band but can’t remember their name??  It was their 3rd show ever in the states (boston and nyc days before). Memory is a bit vague but pretty sure they opened AND closed the show with I will follow. None of us knew Lennon was shot at that point, no social media etc.

fast forward to December 8th 2005, u2 is playing in Hartford ct. I’m with my wife in the first row outside the heart shaped walkway. The boys walk around and stop right in front of me to play 3 acoustic songs, literally 5 feet from us. Bono says, “25 years ago we were playing somewhere in a club the day John Lennon died.” I yelled “Buffalo, NY” and Bono said, “I think you’re right.” They proceeded to play 3 beatle songs.

If you were hitting Nietzsches (or maybe Merlin’s) in the early to mid 90s, you may have been fortunate enough to see The Groove. Tight R&B with a blue eyed soul guitarist and vocalist named Peter Prince. Brothers Alan and Neil (Neal?) Evans rounded out the core of the group — Alan on drums and Neil on keys. The latter was barely 15 when they started playing gigs. They were incredible.

The Evans brothers went on to do great things with Soulive. And I think Peter is still working through his project known as Moonboot Lover (which the Evans brothers were part of early on).

Fun Buffalo fact: The Evanses are the sons of Willie Evans, who gained fame later in life when the story was told about how the UB Bulls, as a team, refused to participate in the Tangerine Bowl game because Willie and another black teammate would not have been allowed to participate.

Just wanted to mention two “old school things” as well,

Billy Sheehan, originally of Talas is one of the country top bassist and is considered by some to be the grandfather of lead bass.

Willie Nile is a critically acclaimed folk rock singer and has performed with a wide variety of acts including several appearances with Bruce Springsteen.

If you look further into Cowley you’ll see that he had his music in A LOT of movies.  He was a large contributor to the soundtrack for gay pornography in the early 80’s.

Interesting. 80’s gay porn, not in my wheelhouse.  Trading Places, definitely.

Not that there’s anything wrong with it.

Megadeth's first drummer (Gar Samuelson) and guitarist (Chris Poland) were from Dunkirk. Not sure if it counts that half the lineup was from here.

Never knew that.

Wow. Amazing. Very cool.
