Given the state of the Sabres roster, which rental would you rather have Pesce or Hellebuyck? Pesce because we'd be able to sign him theoretically. Hellebuyck would be great if he weren't asking for Vasilieski's contract when he's 31 2 Quote

And also, imo, having Pesce for every game will get us thru times of poor goaltending better than Hellebuyck would get us thru times of poor defense in the limited amount of games a goalie plays. For me, it’s Helle and it isn’t close. A couple problems…there is no market value with Vezina level goalies being traded. It doesn’t happen. Related to that, a second problem is that Winnipeg wants a return as if a contract extension is part of the equation. That’s not a good fit for Buffalo. Helle hurt his value in floating his contract extension demands. If the Jets ask was reasonable, Helle would have been traded by now. The Jets want an overpayment and KA isn’t going to do that. 1 Quote

The Jets ask is diminishing by the day. They will not get anything close to their initial ask because there isn’t a market for him. If he had 2 years left at $6.5 sure they would get their preferred return. But with him becoming a UFA with a ridiculous ask on an extension they have found zero takers. If he is moved it will be as a pure rental at a reduced price. Like UPL and a pick as example. They can keep him for the year but he has stated he isn’t signing an extension in Canada so they are handcuffed. 1 Quote

Helle's not re-signing there so they need to get whatever they can get for him and move on -- and no one is going to give them a rich package for a guy who is demanding a huge contract or else leaving in FA in 1 year. Still, they did make the playoffs last year. If no one offers a first-rounder or a very good prospect, I could easily see them deciding that another playoff run is worth more to the franchise than, say, UPL and a 2nd-rounder. I would love to get him for 2 of UPL, Ryan Johnson and next year's #1. I kinda doubt that KA would give up UPL and one of Rosen or Östlund, and I think Savoie, Benson, Kulich, Quinn and Peterka are all NFW. Quote
