It happened minutes ago. No one works at WGR after 7pm. I'm sure the Sabres social media people are home.

I’m super sad about this, I thought Ted Darling couldn’t be replaced but RJ did it. We lost a great one, GD it.

I can't believe I just saw him on TV, joining the guys at one of the last Sabres games. This is surreal to me. This one hurts. No warning or anything. RIP Rick and thoughts and prayers to Cookie and their kids. 😢

Best to ever do it. RJ's calls had as much to do with propelling my love of hockey as anything. Legitimately saddened by this news. RIP, Legend.

We knew Rick was declining a bit, but public perception didn't have him appear this frail. 81 is not as old as it used to be, but this is very saddening. Rip RJ, we'll win one for you!

My Uncle, who has been a Sabres STH since the inaugural season and RJ are the reasons I became a Sabres Fan to begin with. 
 

My Uncle passed away this past Saturday and now RJ Tonight.

I had really hoped the Sabres would get to the playoffs this year and give him a chance to announce another playoff game but I guess he’ll watch from heaven with Ted Darling

That's too bad. It makes me feel all that much better that he was able to see his name raised to the rafters and get such a great send-off to end his broadcasting career.
