Hirly5 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I thought the coverage tonight was very pro-Ottawa. The announcers were good the first period then slowly as the game went on the play-by-play became lets go Ottawa. I didn't really expect that because the CBC coverage is a national game. Oh well, according to indemand.com the game was suppose to be the MSG feed <_< . I hope Wed. game is Rick and Jim. Although Coaches Corner with Don Cherry is great. I have one question though. Why do all the sets for CBC have the studio guys sitting so close to each other? It seems very odd.
DWarner Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Well, the set is really small. I think they show it to you on the tour of the ACC.
MartyHavlatismyGOD Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 My brother and i thought the commentary was Pro Buffalo... I think Harry Neale is just a moron all together
Bmwolf21 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 My brother and i thought the commentary was Pro Buffalo... I think Harry Neale is just a moron all together Really? I thought they were pretty close to openly cheering for Ottawa. I also thought their camera coverage was shoddy at times - I thought I was watching an OLN game.
Corp000085 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 i'm just glad it didn't go to overtime... for some reason, the timeslot in my guide was 7-10, instead of the usual 7-1am... OT would have had the tv cut off...
SHAAAUGHT!!! Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 It was fairly obvious in Game 1 the CBC announcers had a huge for Ottawa. Game 2 brought out some positive Buffalo comments; but they had no choice since Buffalo stole 2 games on the road.
Rabbit151 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Hello from canada. Yes, the CBC announcers are pro-ottawa. Folks up here have this thing about having a Canadian team win the cup. Just like last stanley cup, Calgary was the only hope, so the whole nation turned into Calgary fans. The only respect they show the Sabres is an attempt to keep the disgruntled fans from totally bashing the Sens. The logic is ridiculous as far as I'm concerned. How many Canadians on Ottawa? How may on Buffalo. Ottawa's captain is a swede. Buffalo has a canadian and american. The only bad part about Buffalo is i don't think they have any western canadian kids on the team, every team could use at least one Saskatchewan boy. At least Regier and Ruff are from out here. The last Sabres cup team had Barnes, Brown, Warrener, Ward, Sarich....I think there were more I can't remember. Oh ya, Gaustad is from BC, I think, (Grier from Alberta?). Actually, Ottawa has Redden, Phillips, Heatley and Schaefer from out here. Should I switch to the Sens?????

gregkash Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 ^ lol... You can't expect CBC to be fair... CBC = CANADIAN broadcasting company. The people who see them regularly (Centre Ice doesn't count, it just picks up any feed it can) want Ottawa to win because they're from Canada and they want a Canadian team to win it. Why? I don't know. You can see the same thing happen though here.. I gaurentee in games 3 and 4 there's at least one U-S-A! U-S-A! Chant. Basically, people who watch CBC regularly don't want to hear about how good the Sabres are.... they want Ottawas collective p33n sucked dry. I think it was Schopp who was asked when the Sabres will get the respect they deserve.. he answered, "In June" That's about the best answer you can hope for.

But if there is, it will be for Ryan Miller and the Olympic slight, not for Nationalistic reasons. One nice thing about Buffalo, there probably isn't a hockey fan in the city that hasn't sung "Oh Canada" At HSBC like the old Aud the whole place sings Oh Canada, and the Star Spangled Banner. It is respect for the game and most of our players.

Oh ya, Gaustad is from BC, I think, (Grier from Alberta?). Geoff Sanderson from the '99 team is from the NW territories. I assume he was such a fast skater b/c he had to skate 30-40 miles to go anywhere (and maybe to get away from those polar bears). Separately, I think CBC (and TSN, for that matter) generally root for the Canadian teams, but it doesn't bother me. They are still very knowledgeable and honest, IMHO, and the production quality is consistently excellent. More importantly: we are up 2-zip and Miller is in the zone. If he stays there, the Senators are going to be history by the weekend. Go Sabres.
DWarner Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 At HSBC like the old Aud the whole place sings Oh Canada, and the Star Spangled Banner. It is respect for the game and most of our players. And then you have Philly, that only plays God Bless America before the game.
topshelfcookies Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I think CBC does a very nice job with their production. If anyone has complaints about the announcers then simply mute the TV and listen to the radio. I did this for Game 5 vs Philly and Game 1 vs Ottawa and it was fantastic. I realize out of town fans don't have this option, which stinks. I was thinking though, if you had Tivo (and I don't, so I have no idea if this would work), couldn't you stream the Jeanarette audio over the internet, then sync the game with the audio yourself? Just a thought. Anyways, one thing CBC does that I love, is they actually show the anthem singers. No American stations do this unless it's some washed up pop singer butchering the anthem at the start of a championship game. It's bogus. To me, the anthems are part of the game...I know WHY American stations don't show the anthems...it's a great spot for an extra 4 minutes of commercials...but it just bugs me. Oh, and does anyone else miss Mike Robataille? Ray has improved on "The Shootout" but there's nothing like Roby ripping into an "organIzation" for shoddy play, haha!

Rabbit151 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Thank you Freeman, I knew there was at least one other guy from out west here on that 99 team. Gaustad is from ND? I thought he was from Vancouver. No matter, in some ways parts of ND are like Buffalo. Bigger Canuck cities are just north of them. There's a certain amount of Canadian flavor that pops up there. ND is kinda the forgotten state to many Americans.
GGM Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 At least South Dakota has Mount Rushmore. ...Although it does have a French name for its capital.

Rabbit151 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Bingo. I'm talking to you from Regina right now. Our claim to fame is that our city was named after a queen, Victoria I think (Regina was her middle name, I may be wrong on this). We are known as the Queen City anyways. The most amusing part of Regina, to our american friends who stop off here on their way to hunting trips up north is that Regina is actually pronounced so that it rhymes with a part of the female anatomy. And you thought this forum was never going to teach you anything new!!

apuszczalowski Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 The reason the game had a senators bias was because it is the Hockey Night In Canada feed, it would be stupid for them to be cheering the American team for HNIC. Its kind of like how you get the american feeds that are a bit bias towards their own team they are covering, except here in Canada, during the playoffs, if the team is Canadian, the country cheers for them cause they want to see a Canaian team win the cup cause its our national sport.
GGM Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 ...they want to see a Canaian team win the cup cause its our national sport. Did they finally change it from lacrosse?
Rabbit151 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Actually, they did change that a few years ago. I think they kept lacrosse on as a co-national sport though.
GGM Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Actually, they did change that a few years ago. I think they kept lacrosse on as a co-national sport though. That story rings a bell. "co-national sport", haha...We can't have lacrosse fans, or Native Americans, or Walruses, or anyone else have their feelings hurt, can we? I hate political correctness in all of its forms.
