LabattBlue Posted June 29, 2023 Report Posted June 29, 2023 (edited) Also wondering can an achilles be a partial tear, or is it always a full tear? Edited June 29, 2023 by LabattBlue 1 Quote

I think those are the most likely options. I don't want to rule out Benson getting the 9 game look if he is great in camp. Even with Savoie a year ahead, as I said yesterday, if one of the players explodes, they're going to get the playing time. If Quinn can come closer to the shorter end of that rehab timeframe, they can make do with one of these guys or the likes of Rousek/Biro in the short term. As for Olofsson, I think that move does wind up being for D, even if it is indirect (add a pick and then later trade a different pick for D). This is the easiest time of the year to make that move and get the right return. Quote

Him, Savoie, Kulich, Benson, & a couple others now have a little more light to squeeze onto the big roster. Will be interesting to see if this causes Olofsson to still be a Sabre come October. Prior to this news would've been willing to put a (very small) amount on VO being gone by then. Things might have just changed. 1 Quote

bob_sauve28 Posted June 29, 2023 Report Posted June 29, 2023 One of the bright spots last years was the lack of injuries. This really stinks, we already have an injury weighing on the team. Hope this is not contagious Hope he battles through it and comes out on the other side better. Casey and Tage battled through this situation while in development, so Jack can too 1 1 Quote

Quinn is not relevant to that discussion IMPO. He needs to be traded or waived. 1 2 1 Quote

Zamboni Posted June 29, 2023 Report Posted June 29, 2023 Instead of the stormy cloud. I’ll take the sunshine approach … I bet Quinn misses only 4-6 weeks of actual regular season games. No big deal. 3 Quote

Or, not trading him says they're down a middle 6 scoring winger and they aren't convinced any of the kids looking to grab a spot are ready to do so and they don't want to waste assets (whether it be in players, draft capital, just $'s or a combo to fill that spot for a couple of months) at present. Altering plans due to events changing doesn't necessarily mean that management has changed its overall plan nor vision of how to get there. Heck, maybe coming this close to being a former Sabre ends up Olofsson's come to Jesus moment and he bears down more on the smaller aspects of the game and becomes the player that Granato keeps telling us he can be. Should he be on the roster in October, he can always still get traded after Quinn comes back or after they decide one of the kids IS ready for that sort of usage. EDIT: & btw, still expect him to be traded. Just don't see it as a slam dunk anymore. Would've had it at 98% certainty he's gone; would now put it at about 55%. Edited June 29, 2023 by Taro T 1 Quote
rickshaw Posted June 29, 2023 Report Posted June 29, 2023 I love when people say it’s no big deal. An Achilles injury isn’t ideal ever! Surgery isn’t ideal. This is a big deal, ask Jack. 4 Quote
Mustache of God Posted June 29, 2023 Report Posted June 29, 2023 Does this create an opportunity to keep Savoie here as the 13th forward and get him some NHL experience? Quote

Possibly creates an opportunity for him, ya. For the Sabres the priority in replacing him to start the year should be whoever gives them the best chance to win. Whether that’s Savoie, who knows. This news is a bummer, but injuries are always expected so as long as we don’t get news of more stacking up in the offseason and this is it more less heading into camp, we’ll be ok. Quote
Second Line Center Posted June 29, 2023 Report Posted June 29, 2023 Also tore his in the summer but he’s 34 RALEIGH, N.C. -- Carolina Hurricanes winger Max Pacioretty suffered a second tear of his right Achilles tendon, the team said. Pacioretty was placed on injured reserve after he was hurt late in the third quarter of a win over Minnesota. Players placed on IR must sit out a minimum of seven days, but this injury will almost certainly end Pacioretty’s season. The 34-year-old had surgery over the summer after the initial tear of his right Achilles tendon. https://www.nbcsports.com/nhl/news/hurricanes-max-pacioretty-suffers-2nd-achilles-tendon-tear Quote
