idk, but if UPL got waived vs. Comrie got waived which would be more likely to be picked up (if either)? Comrie has already been an NHL back up. He might actually be the one more likely picked up. If either.

There seems to be a perception that Comrie is a proven NHL backup and UPL is not:

  • Comrie has played 47 career NHL games, 19 in each of the past 2 seasons, and has 22 wins and .897 sv%
  • UPL has played 46 career NHL games, 9 and 33 in the past 2 seasons, and has 20 wins and .898 sv%

The only significant difference in their NHL careers to date is that Comrie has been able to demonstrate his mediocrity over 4 more seasons.

I realized I just read a couple of pages of posts that could go in one of the Sabres goaltending threads but that this is the trade thread.

Huh.

The goalie and the trade issue are inextricably linked. Those who are arguing for a change to our current group usually give their opinion on what other goalies they would prefer. It's not unusual for some threads to overlap. I'm not a stickler on maintaining topic discipline. However, I agree with you that when the responses to a topic don't come close to relating to the topic, the issue should be raised.

That's true.. My point was really that neither is all that in demand and the fear of EITHER being snapped up on waivers is perhaps not worth having. COULD they get snapped up, sure. Nobody thought Fitz would be taken by Florida and there he was (sucking) in the playoffs for them a little so you never know. If the timing is bad and some team has run out of healthy goalies it's possible. But are teams crossing their fingers waiting and hoping we waive UPL (or Comrie), well I really doubt it.

Brett Pesce trade destinations: 5 teams that could (or should) be interested

Dallas

Buffalo

"The Sabres already addressed the right side of their blue line this summer by signing Connor Clifton and Erik Johnson. So at this point, Pesce is less of a need and more of a luxury. That doesn’t take them out of the mix, entirely, though.

If management wants to keep both Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power on their natural side and take their blue line up a notch further, someone like Pesce could be an ideal top-four righty. He and Clifton could balance out the Dahlin and Power pairings, or he could take on a total shutdown role with Mattias Samuelsson against top competition to free up their two stars. Pesce would be a plus on their penalty kill, as well. The remaining RHD (Johnson, Henri Jokiharju and Ilya Lyubushkin) could rotate in and provide some injury support this upcoming year. And there’s room for a long-term future with Pesce, especially with Johnson and Lyubushkin becoming UFAs next summer."

Supposedly TSN says we kicked tires on Petry

Good God. Why?

Why doesn't KA just pull the trigger to vastly improve the team?

Why doesn't KA just stand pat where the team is now, letting maturity and development take its course?

Why?

For the record, I'm a Pesce or stand pat kind of fan. But ya, my post was pointing at the 2 main entrenched views on the subject. But also.....good God no, no Petry. Lol

Both Sportsnet and TSN have connected Petry to us in the past couple days.

Ya, you see Dahlin won't sign so we're going to deal him in a blockbuster move...................

Summer rumors on Petry make me chuckle. I think it more likely we kicked the tires on Kaarlson but decided one of them was flat.

DeSmith’s Worse Season using the stat Goals Saved Above Expected was on par with UPL’s Best one. He has a positive Goals saved above expected two of the past three seasons, the only season he wasn’t was a -0.6.

His numbers have been consistent but he fell a bit last season. Would he be a big upgrade in this system over UPL or Comrie?

His cap hit is $1.8 the same as Comrie.  You could acquire him for a pick as the Habs are almost $4 million over the cap.

Sure if they take back Comrie

Adams is hopefully making phone calls.

He's better than either upl or Comrie.

Is he?  I'm not so sure.  Past career?  Yes.  Going forward?  Remains to be seen.  I could see UPL (or Comrie but in my mind more likely UPL) playing better than DeSmith this year.
