I know the biggest difference between the two…no MSG on YTTV.   😞

Beyond that, I would love to hear any thoughts on these two services.  Even after I moved my Internet to T-Mobile, my Spectrum cable bill is $155…two boxes(one with a DVR), and thats it.  No premium channels,  no sports packages, not even the highest level of their basic tiers. F THEM!

On a related note…how far off are we from the Sabres streaming their games(entire season or ala carte)?

No way would I pay that ever again, I remember those insane prices and I hope it doesn't get there again! I've been on Youtube TV for quite some time and really like it. It will take some getting used to since Cable has channels, On youtube TV it will say TNT/AMC/Disney etc so no cahnnels anymore but once you get the hand of it it's fairly easy to navigate even for a youngen like yourself 😂. I wasn't a fan of the current price hike (I think my bill is now $72 per month) because Youtube TV now got the NFL rights or something of that nature so they have to make that money back somehow. I want to try sling TV but not having local channels is a no go for me, I'm not paying to get rabbit ears just to watch local channels.

Also MSG i think will allow customers to purchase MSG on whatever platform they have this coming year if I heard that correctly, not sure the price but if it's reasonable I'll probably add it.

This is true. Individual Sabres (or Knicks) games for the 2023-24 season can be streamed through MSG for $9.99. Or, a monthly cost of $29.99.

If this is a problem with all customers, I would think they would be out if business by now.  Makes me gun shy about trying it.

I didn’t have the issue with DIRECTV stream. Then I switched to YouTube and it was really bad. Now to Fubo and the issue is gone. I’m sure you’re right, and maybe it’s my tv or settings, but YouTube was by far the worst culprit.

I don't understand why they would make the cost so ridiculously high. That's almost half a YoutubeTV sub on it's own.

Interested in this thread. Presently I have Roku. Watch Sabres through Spectrum App at a cost of $158/monthly. Expect big hike in Fall to close to $200/monthly. Must have channels to keep wife and I both happy seem to rule out dropping Spectrum. Ugh! Oh, live in Western New York I should add. The cost includes internet service.

i have youtubetv. we are in nj, and right on the border of philly and ny channels. youtubetv is the only one that let us choose which we wanted. all the others forced us into philly. my wife is a big football fan of the ny giants fan,  so we stick with youtubetv.

our local cable company was more money than youtubetv, but not much more than youtube at this point

im sick of the price increases, but really dont have any other choice. we havent had any issues with it, but i would prefer one that was cheaper. years ago we had the sony one, and it was great. unfortunately, they stopped the service.

I’m doing the exact same thing. If you come up with a cheaper solution, let me know. And I’ll do the same.

One thing I DO KNOW, is if you call and demand to speak to a “retention specialist” at Spectrum, they can sometimes get you a lower rate. My wife complained to a retention specialist a couple months ago, and she got it lowered (for 12 months), from $140/month to $115/month.

It’s not a guaranteed solution, but it’s worth the call. And if you don’t get a reduction, call back in 2-3 weeks and try again. 👍🏼

I just got my price lowered almost $35 a month.  The retention person kept trying to get me to add services and give me a promo rate, but I dug my heels in and said if you drop my monthly price today(without adding anything), I will consider adding in the future….lie on my part, F them.

you can purchase the Sunday Ticket without having youtube TV.

How?  Do you mean not getting the YouTube subscription?  Or not going through YouTube at all?

Pretty sure he meant tha tyou can get Sunday ticket without buying the rest of the YouTube package.  Which is doable, but it costs an extra $100 than it would if it is bundled w/ YouTube TV.

And either way, if you order it by some time in September, you'll save $50 over waiting until past that date (believe it is 9/16, but not positive, it IS sometime in September that the non-early early bird early bird discount goes away.  (Had it been purchased prior to June 6, it would've been $100 off whichever option was chosen.)

We just recently cut cable.

My hockey fix will be Sportsnet Now for $20 month. Supposed to get every game.

Been cable free for awhile now. Started this last season when they switched up the apps.

Bit of a learning curve initially, but it’s been relatively glitch free and I’ve been happy with the service.

We need to move on from cable (Spectrum, $250/month).  We don't watch a lot of tv as it is so we're not looking to spend much for a streaming service.  Is there a cheap way to stream the Sabres and Bills (local stations) games?

What were you using to stream it? I have 3 tvs in the house and one (Samsung) would buffer constantly when I was using it’s built in aps. I put a fire stick on that tv and now it’s been perfect.

I streamed other stuff directly through that tv (Disney, Netflix, prime) and they al worked normally. I had read a few things that the software for Samsung and youtubetv is absolute crap and my tv supported that idea.

Read thru the thread, I’m sure you aren’t the first person who has inquired about this 👍🏼

There are a few threads on the subject I believe as well.

Roku Ultra that was wired. I’ve since moved to Hulu Live TV and happy with it.

I dropped directv this winter and now have youtube tv . I like it and saving a lot of money over directv. Let me know what questions you have

Same here.  With the Directv package I had and all the fees for equipment, I was paying just under $180 per month.  YouTube is around $80.   I added YouTube while weeding thru saved shows on the DVR but didn’t watch it much.  Now that it’s my full time provider, I’m somewhat annoyed by not all shows letting you FFWD thru commercials.

I'm curious how you get to $250/month if you don't watch a lot of TV.  You'd have to have all the movie channels, etc. wouldn't you?

I would say the "cheapest" way to watch the Sabres (MSG only) and Bills (local only) would be an HD antenna (Bills) and the MSG+ package (Sabres). The next cheapest option would be Spectrum TV Choice if they still offer it and then MSG+.  If you want a single service for both then Fubo is the only option other than Spectrum.

For those living outside the 716, and former Direct Tv Sunday Ticket owners what are you doing?  As Taro notes above, the discount of $100 applies only if you sign up for YouTube tv @ $72/month.  I’m planning on keeping Direct Tv for a while.  My contract expires in August and I’m curious what options they have for me this year since I won’t get the Sunday Ticket for free (like I have for the last 17 years).  Having Prime, NFL network, local stations (NBC/Fox/CBS) and ESPN should allow me to view about half of the Bills games this year.  Thus making the YouTube option of $399 seem an excessive option at $50/game.  I mean I could go down to the local sports bar for breakfast on any games not televised nationally.  That might cost me on $25/game.  Rolling the die that other games are flexed or get televised.
