Quint Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 (edited)  Tom, you and that fabulous voice projected kindness and goodness. Besides being 1/3 of the most memorable news team in Buffalo history, he was perhaps the most famous person who ever came out of Lockport and had a collection of loud plaid jackets that was second to none. Rest in peace Tom.  Edited June 8, 2023 by Quint 5 1 1 Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 Sad day. Used to watch him all the time as Comander Tom. Often wondered why the Mountie dress uniform? 1 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 Oh wow, I remember that. They used to show the old black and white superman serials on that show if I remember correctly. I watched that all the time. Wow, that takes me back. 3 Quote
Popular Post Broken Ankles Posted June 8, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted June 8, 2023  I drew a picture of Don Edwards and mailed it in to The Commander Tom show.  It was displayed in one the episodes at the end of the show and he mentioned my name.  A childhood memory I have not recalled in a while.  Definitely a great broadcaster.  Rest in Peace. #BuffaloLegend  4 12 Quote

KC Scouts Posted June 9, 2023 Report Posted June 9, 2023 (edited) Often would see Commander Tom at Nino's in West Seneca at Lunchtime. Irv, Rick and Tom were the ONLY newscast watched in our house Edited June 9, 2023 by KC Scouts 3 Quote

Nowhere near enough alliteration to be an Irv lede. Quote
Taro T Posted June 9, 2023 Report Posted June 9, 2023 Really sad that he passed. Tom Jolls seemed to be one of the good guys. And saw a lot of his weather broadcasts. But never really watched him much as Commander Tom. We were usually either playing after school or watching reruns on Channel 29. But watched Rocketship 7 with Dave Thomas in the morning often before school. Quote

ExWNYer Posted June 9, 2023 Report Posted June 9, 2023 Another piece of my childhood sent to the permanent archives. RIP, Tom Jolls, and thanks for a ton of pleasant memories. Quote

I can recall TV before channel 29.  Commander Tom had the black and white Superman, that was big in the 60’s  When Channel 29 came out they had Ultra Man, a Japanese superhero that never talked but he could fire laser beams out of his wrists.  After that was Gillian’s Island reruns.  Mary Ann wearing tiny shorts and halter tops.  Whoa!  Let’s push that homework out until after dinner please. Quote
