Just turned on After the Whistle and they're talking about it. Thought I'd get the thread started.

ATW guys think he'd be good with Cozens and Quinn. Seems like an okay idea at the right price, but is he going to hold up another players' development? I don't know, but surely some of you that thought about it more than me might have some discussion worthy opinions.

I say no.

On the slight chance that he wants to be here and KA and company can see a fit for him, I hope it is a reduced role so he is not blocking anyone.

To be honest, I would prefer Toews. Leadership, two way play, 4C on this team and NHL’s best faceoff man.

From an on ice perspective, I think I'd be for it if he were to sign on as a 3rd line winger on team friendly short term contract. I'd also tell him he can move up to the Cozens line if his play warranted it.

Off the ice, I can't pretend to know the implications of bringing him in would be. If KA thought it was a net positive to have him in the room, then I say go for it.

I guess if Quinn had been a draft bust and if VO had no scoring value, sure. But neither of those are true. Kane doesn't fit on the roster and would be blocking Savoie and Kulich. Kane is also not a forechecker/disrupter which is the one role they need. It doesn't make any sense from the hockey side. The only way it happens is if an owner says they must have him for ticket sales. However, this team will earn ticket sales by being good and with the potential arrow sticking straight up. Let him go impact someone else's cap.

A true test of Adams ability to save Terry from himself?

There are 500 moves Adams is avoiding based on his philosophy that would make more sense than adding Kane at this point, so yes if Kane is a Sabre next year it's because Terry called Kevyn to mount Sinai and gave him a contract written on a stone tablet

He didn't even look that good on NY, he's aging poorly, has numerous off ice problems (or had them). He doesn't move the needle for me at all, let the kids grow. We need veteran grit, not veteran 5,9" fancy dangler.

His metrics have fallen off a cliff.

There is a segment of the Front Office that is dead set against this.

Plus both Adams and Granato have had personal contact with Him, Granato as a coach and Adams as his roommate during Kane’s Rookie Season.
I’m sure that’s enough to make an informed decision on why he is not a good fit for the team

A rhetorical question:  if Kane wasn't a Buffalo native, would we even be having this conversation?

I’ll show you what I think of your rhetoric and answer your question.  Not even a thought.

I think both of these guys need another year before being effective NHL players.

Peterka's numbers in ROC were must better than Kulich's and he still struggled at times in the NHL. I think Kulich would struggle all year long as a 19yo.

Savoie has come on real strong as of late, so maybe he has a chance, but it's tough to ignore how he started the season.

Maybe Kane can keep a spot warm for either of these too?

No... But it opens up the possibility that he'd sign a contract that was friendlier to the team vs what he might get on the open market.

The team has 10 returning players (not counting Olofsson who IMHO won't be back this coming season) battling out for 9 spots in the top 9 plus there are kids like Savoie, Rousek, and Kulich who will get looks as well.

Who does Kane bump out of the lineup presuming he wouldn't be brought in specifically as a PP specialist?   (And why would a team with Thompson, Tuch, Cozens, Quinn, Skinner, Mittelstadt, Peterka, Krebs, Dahlin, and Power need another PP specialist?)

2 years ago the team could've used his offense.  Right now, that's the thing they're actually really good at generating.  Would much rather have a PK specialist 4C brought in.
