The further you get away from Buffalo, the bigger that IF gets.

Which is absolutely befuddling.

When you live in suburban Philly you do what you need to do.  If you learn how to order properly it's tolerable, but's it's not even close to the real thing.  To be fair if I go to B-Lo and order a cheesesteak what I will get is crap compared to what I get in Philly.

Not sure how far away you are from Jay’s Elbow Room on 73 in Maple Shade, NJ, but they have legitimate wings. Cool place, too, with a good music selection.

Funny you used this phrase.  Earlier today I had a long layover in Dallas on my way home.  I’m at the bar of an airport restaurant and the guy next to me orders Buffalo style bonless wings and ranch dressing, and the exact phrase that immediately came to my mind was, an abomination against God.  For both the boneless wings and the children’s dip he ordered with it.

Wings with wing stops ranch is heaven.

Wings : ranch :: steak : ketchup.

I live in the midwest now ... "ranch" is the official dip/sauce/dressing/drink of everything and I hate it. I can tolerate it (barely) when a place offers "ranch or blue cheese" with something "Buffalo" - but so many places just say "with Ranch" and look at you like you have done unspeakable acts to a close family member if you enquire as to the availability of the correct sauce.

And correct sauce is only part of it.  Wings are greasy, fatty rich.  You need the right compliment to it.  The strong, tangy, slightly funky flavors of bleu cheese mesh with the fatty texture and heat of the sauce.  Ranch is sweet, thin, mild and cloying, and it dumbs down what makes a Buffalo wing a Buffalo wing.

Like Eleven said, it’s no different than ketchup on a steak.  Sweet, thin and cloying to satisfy a child’s sweet tooth and dumb down what makes a steak a steak.

Order Chicken McNuggets and honey mustard, FFS.

I’ll ignore the ranch part for now because I have zero interest in dipping a wing. But anyway, would you be fine if they just called them fingers or tenders? With those labels, it’s a meal that has a very important position in the world.

Fingers, McNuggets, molded scrap meat, whatever.

They aren’t even a tender unless they are made from that specific muscle.

Given my posting history I'm sure most of you will reflexively say yes. Regardless. Went to BWW tonight with my boys. Ordered 30 wings to share amongst us. Counted the bones and got 28 wings. Nicely brought it to the to the waitress' attention who fixed it. Am I the AH for thinking if I bought 30 of something for more than a dollar each that I should actually receive the number I ordered??

YTA for going to BWW...that place sucks. 😂

You know you watch too much porn when BWW isn’t short for a wing place

According to a GrubHub survey, “ranch dressing is five times more popular in chicken wing orders than blue cheese.” The answer is clear; ranch is the better choice.

Since when does more popular equate to better?

FWIW, putting any sauce on a wing takes away from the experience, and the heat.

Depending on where you are in the Philly suburbs, The Whip Tavern has the best wings (and weck!!) I found in the Philly area, although I haven't been there in a bit. Both were Buffalo-OK, which makes them worlds better than anything else in the area. The manager (when I asked) was from OP.

I mean, it works with beer in the US so I can't understand why you'd question it for Ranch vs Blue Cheese. 😉

I would bet that ratio is much different if focused on only WNY.

Logical fallacy.

popularity is not quality

Arguing that an idea or product has merit because it has popular support is one of the oldest argument tactics around. It’s also one of the most flawed.

Does McDonald’s have the best hamburger because they sell billions? Is a Toyota better than a Ferrari because one is far more common than the other?

Is [insert current musical artist] a better musician than Mozart, who you never hear on the radio?

Just because something is popular does not therefore mean it is good

A common argument used by people is that oh this shows good or this artist is good because a lot of people like them. There a lot of bad shows and music artists who are popular. It's a dumb argument.

There’s preference … ok fine

You must have thought Britney Spears made awesome music in her day.

Popular usually means simple and plain.  Generally unoffending.  Sounds awesome.
