It's a legitimate beef.  It's also rarely enforced.  He and the puck were moving laterally from the boards toward the goal, but his last deke before his shot both his feet and the puck ended up a little further from the goal line than they were before the deke.

If you look at the vector distance to, say, the middle of the front of the goal though, because of his lateral movement you could say he was still moving "toward" the goal.

Can the league please fix the rule book? There are many examples of almost complete incoherence. I think I'm the man for the job.

Srsly when Toronto has a tough call, what documentation do the pull out (of their ass)? I can guarantee it ain't that rulebook.

Not positive, but believe they have hth lower in the tiebreaks for 2 reasons.

1. To mildly incentivize teams to win in regulation.  and 

2. To not have to worry about having to drop 1 of the games between the 2 teams when so many of the teams in conference play an odd number of games.  (And personally believe 2 is a bigger reason than 1 for that order of the tie breakers.)

Legally in my opinion; Kakko came well into the crease to make his deke; a goalie should have at least some degree of allowance to protect his crease. Especially in shootouts.

 

Power's was borderline but we've all seen far worse.
