GASabresIUFAN Posted March 24, 2023 Report Posted March 24, 2023 We asked for more D depth in the organization and bam LA delivers. I don’t know if this is a good signing or not, but at least it’s recognition that the depth is needed. Hopefully this is another sign that KA actually has a clue what needs to be done to fix the team and help them take the next step. Quote

Carmel Corn Posted March 24, 2023 Report Posted March 24, 2023 If this is a signing intended for Rochester only....great! If there are no other defense signings planned, then I am disappointed. Quote

The position involves so many battles in front of the net or in the corners. A long reach closes gaps and takes away lanes. A mixture of guys is OK to a point but I would prefer a D corps between 6’1” and 6’4”, provided they can skate and move the puck. Bryson is small but plays smaller. Without the high end offensive skills, he has trouble being effective. Quote

The more important point is that KA is finally taking our need for defense depth in the organization seriously. Getting Stillman, trying to get Chychrun, and signing a college FA are all part hopefully of a continued trend toward making the team's defense better and making the organizational defensive depth better. Granted this signing and the Stillman trade are baby steps, but they are steps nonetheless. 1 Quote

Expand Not if they're going to play in the Calder Playoffs they don't. And, if they're on an ELC, then there is no ATO available. The ATO is to let a team see a player in action before signing him to a real deal. An ELC is a real contract. Quote

Expand From what I can find, ATOs are eligible for the playoffs. Teams will do it all the time, they give the player their ELC after the college/junior season, but it doesn't start until the following year. Then they play on an ATO, unless more recent CBA changes have eliminated that. Google's not being my friend right now, but I've got a story up right now about how Jack Campbell played with the Stars' minor league team on an ATO in 2012 but he had initially signed his ELC in 2010. The only limitation of the ATO is that it expires after a specific number of games. Quote

But don't see how a guy signs an ATO (amateur tryout agreement/contract) when he has a professional contract. Clearly must be missing something if that happens. Quote
