Going into this game, Comrie and UPL ranked near dead last in save percentage on home ice... Comrie giving up 2 goals more than expected PER GAME.

There's a saying in Tennessee...

Donny's pressers are about as useless as Ralph Kruger's.  I'd rather see him react like Torts or something after this one.  He is simply too protective of his players, his coaches, etc.

Ever notice he doesn't talk much about X's and O's, but rather "feelings"?  Maybe he doesn't know as much as we hope?1

Great point. I kinda feel sorry for him. He's in way over.

Every single team fighting for 8th is pulling stuff out of their a$$es to fight and claw for points (even if they are down by 3 or 4 goals in a game). Then you have this pathetic mess that just crumbles at the site of adversity. It is so so hard to believe that this still happening all these years later. Toronto, Tampa and Boston will all finish ahead of them next year so what in the world could possibly make people think playoffs next year?

Florida and Ottawa will most assuredly finish ahead of them as well so it will be the battle of Detroit, Buffalo and Montreal to see which rebuild is further ahead.

Maybe the long season is starting to catch up with the younger players?

They’ve avoided injuries (except for the early season Dmen) until recently, maybe they are beat up and will now take the time to heal.

Well as long as we are sure Tage can have another 100 point season next year, and Dahlin another 85+ point season, we can start from there and hope to improve the ~10 points needed to firmly entrench ourselves in the playoffs. Should be easy, those seasons grow on trees

Trotz could not play his system with this team.

100% correct.  Trotz relies on good goaltending.  Frankly, he's just a thicker Lindy Ruff.

He let in 6 goals above expected.   Sometimes, you have to make a save or two.

That was kind of a tongue in cheek comment - seems obvious you have goaltending issues when you give up 10 in what was a must win game

Brutal.  This team never ceases to embarrass. Is there really an end in sight?

Problem to take is O'Reilly was a good player, Eichel was a good player

Sabres still sucked

GM had a chance in a tough Buffalo year for City to do SOMETHING SPECIAL to PUSH Sabres over the losing edge

Question now is HOW do you evaluate this team now?

What is sad is the regression is so bad, it will take much work in the offseason to even consider us a possibility of getting to the playoffs next year.

Last 18 games will tell us where Sabres at, fall apart? Will they go 50/50 or will they FIGHT and go on winning streak

Doesn't have to be PLAYOFFS, has to be a good finish

It should be an extremely busy off season for Adam's, he has work to do.

And he needs to do it… A winning goaltender and a couple big, tough D Men with solid playoff experience… No excuses…

Most coaches pull goalie at 6-7

Don and Kevyn engineered a feat to get the train back on the tracks, are proud of themselves for doing so. They seem to think it will drive itself just fine from here. I'm two cabins from the back and starting to hear ominous sounds below.

This one is lingering sadly. Not: lingering, sadly. Just lingering sadly. I suppose that’s the mark of a true hope for playoffs, being pushed -what feels like - significantly further away by way of one unexpectedly lopsided loss.

shock to the system. Suppose there’s a silver lining there

Let's pump the brakes on all the gloom and doom.    A young team had an off night, and combined with brutal goaltending you get games like this.

With an average NHL goalie it's still prolly a 6-4 game, but the optics of the 10 spot are certainly not going to resonate well with the fanbase.

That said, do better.

I don't recall seeing a team with this bad of defensive structure.  That is on coaching.

They were pretty bad during the Housley years too, but this current crop of coaches, especially the asst coaches have ZERO idea how to fix the defensive zone play and the penalty kill. There has been absolutely no improvement in these areas from game 1. To me, that screams coaching inadequacies.
