He was one of the bright spots under Krueger scoring 20 goals in 54 games.  If you feature him, he will score.  His problem with respect to the Sabres is they have plenty of offensive talent to feature, and Victor doesn't have an all around game that fits with Granato's scheme.  Throw him over the wall to a franchise that's got nothing on offense and they'll be glad to have him.

Depends on the competition.  If we're likely to get into a track meet, play Vinny.  If you're playing a heavy team, Greenway.

I don't ever want to say there is 0 chance but I'd say there is maybe a .001% chance they play Vinny Hinistroza over Greenway in any scenario and that's probably too much imo.

I don’t think that is obvious at all.  Waivers are not in play, it’s after the trade deadline and the roster can be bigger.

It could be Vinnie, or Olofsson, or Peterka.   It could be a rotation.

I guess but if they wanted to replace Olofsson with Hinistroza they could have at any point this season same with Peterka, it would make no sense replacing Peterka imo just because he's in a slump, further burying him in Rochester will do nothing for his growth again imo that to me makes Hinistroza expendable like he's been all season long, thanks for the hard work and for your dedication to the team.

Yes, he has over 4 games. Before he got sent down Vinnie was on a stretch of 0 goals and 4 assists in 17 games.

He doesn’t play special teams. And let’s not pretend he’s great on the forecheck or in his own zone either.

Over the long haul, Victor is the better hockey player.

This is true, but they are both very streaky players. And right now, Vinnie is getting on the scoreboard and Oloffson is not. I understand Oloffson needs to play to become streaky, but I go with the hot hand here and that is Vinnie. They both suck in their own zone and at forecheck.

Greenway will play, he is in next years plan and he will play as soon as he can.   That puts someone on the bench right now.  Most likely that is Vinnie, but maybe not.  VO and JJP have not outplayed him since he has been back from Rochester.  A rotation is not out of the question.   Again, no one needs to go to Rochester.

When Tuch comes back someone else sits and at that point we have 2 spare forwards.   You can guess that 2 of the 3 - Vinnie, VO, and JJP - will  sit when Tuch gets back (assuming he does).

Granato will most likely base the decision on many factors such as the opponent, how they are playing, and if anyone else is dinged up and needs a rest.

Girgensons is more valuable than folks give him credit for. More often then not he wins those races to the puck on dump-ins and then muscles his opponent out for control.

Girgensons is a fantastic bottom six forward, and personally he can stay in Buffalo as long as he would like. I wouldn't be upset at the same time if he wanted a fresh start elsewhere.  But, as long as he wants to suit up here, I'm all for it.  He's a soldier who fits a role and fights hard.

Not disagreeing, but VO too often flunks the eye test too.

Im sure there are Brian Burke types who won’t want anything to do with him.

Fortunately, you are right, there are other guys who will be desperately needing a finisher who will be willing to ignore the rest: 25 goals are 25 goals.

Im kinda expecting a trade or trades that move out VO and move in a Jokiharju-level defenceman.

And by Jokiharju-level, I mean somebody relatively young and relatively anonymous who’s probably more capable than the average fan gives him credit for and has room to grow. Think of Lydman when we got him from Calgary, except probably younger.

Or they trade VO for a Ryan Johnson level D prospect and acquire a vet free agent to bridge us until that player and Johnson arrive.

It’s not like VO doesn’t have a history of racking up a lot more assists than he is currently, too. We aren’t the only team that can improve players by fit

The “VO is only a trigger man” thing was actually one we actively argued against until this season, which actually is an outlier re: his overall production

VO was averaging 32 *assists* per 82, over the last 3 seasons, before this season where he has 9 total

VO's problem is that we have several players that can release that lethal one timer.  Tage, Cozey, Quinn, Skinny, Mitts... they've all scored from there on the power play.

I agree. Just because we have players who can amount to more than VO here, now, doesn’t mean VO can’t be used to a greater harnessing of his abilities on another team, than he is currently, here. We’ve seen him with much more well rounded numbers in the past

I’m sure KA would point to that in a potential trade, too

Someone will use the same logic we used in acquiring Greenway when paying a similar price for Vic: he’s done it before and he’s not really in a position right now to maximize what he does best.

And they will be right to do so.

He will score 30 goals and 60 points if he is playing 5-on-5 with a Jack Eichel and being the undisputed trigger man in the power play.

I like Vic. I just like Jack Quinn better and, on this team, need a player like the concept of Jordan Greenway more.

The Okposos are building a house in the St Paul Area and in some interviews He has spoken about his career with the Sabres in the past tense. Also His Oldest Son is turning into quite a hockey player himself and playing in the State of Hockey might be for the best for him moving forward.

My guess is he signs with Minnesota for league minimum or just above for 1 year and then retires.

You don’t need to tell me that, I know what you think.

He’s a scorer, he will work through it. New line mate and they seem to be really developing chemistry. Let it play out

He's a streaky pp specialist who's time in Buffalo is limited. At best he is here next season but this summer he should be moved for defensive help.

Is Greenway in Buffalo yet? Will we see him Monday and Tuesday?

Yes, Greenway is in Buffalo. He arrived Saturday afternoon. Yes he should be in the lineup.

Hope he doesn't turn out to be a "gentle giant."

Don't you know? Everyone who is big is mean and physical, just ask half the posters here at draft time.

"That guys 6.3! He's better than the 5.11 guy and meaner too!"

Hinostroza plays with some pace though, so he can fit on a line with cozens or krebs.  Olofsson has some use on the power play, though i have noticed teams are just smothering him on the wall if he doesn't have a lot of space.

They should consider moving Greenway to defense, like Byfuglien or Burns did at the same point in their careers.

He's similar stature, exceptional defensive skills for a forward... something to thing about heading into next season.

I must have missed where these two played together in the past.

After all the USA hockey stuff they did wind up as bitter rivals for a year at BU/BC.  I wonder if those fans have finally gotten to the point where they understand that so many of the players are friends now.
