But likely, using one of the 50 NHL contract slots. New guy might be on an AHL-only deal, although I don't know if that affects the contract count. THIS COULD BE THE SABRES CLEARING ROOM FOR A HUUUGE MOVE!

Hmm. But yes --- for next season, that's the obvious person Bloom (or the Bloom equivalent) would step in for.

It is AHL-only. That's one more slot freed up.

Still 3 goalies on the Sabres though, which is the real hang-up.

I don't know if a blockbuster is coming (or anything at all is coming), but the key to this trade is that the player coming back is on an AHL deal and doesn't count toward our 50 contract limit.  It's a smart move. We get rid of a player we didn't want or need and replaced him with a slot to acquire someone we do want and need.

Bjork was being outplayed by at least a half dozen Amerks forwards.  Hinestroza looked like Pavel Bure compared to Andres.  Dude brought nothing.  Zero.  Zip.  To the AHL.
