Erik Portillo traded to the Kings for a 2023 3rd Round Pick

The beauty of this is that Portillo will sign elsewhere and in a few years, LAK will trade a 3rd for him again just to make him their backup for a year before he walks in UFA again.

This reminds me of late in the 2011-12 season when we traded Gaustad before the deadline for a first on the last year of his deal.

I legitimately thought he could be coming right back.

And it's roughly equivalent to what the Sabres will get if Johnson doesn't sign.  Late 3rd in '23 is roughly the same value as late 2nd in '24.

It’s kind of interesting we dealt Gaustad at the deadline that year when IIRC we were still very much “in it”. 

the “grey piping” on the sweaters era is sorta a no-man’s land era
