Eleven Posted January 26, 2023 Report Posted January 26, 2023 For things the Sabres are reportedly "in" on, I suggest separate threads like the current Timo Meier thread. For other stuff, like the present McCabe discussion, I suggest here. Quote
Eleven Posted January 26, 2023 Author Report Posted January 26, 2023 (edited) I think that McCabe could be the piece the Sabres are missing to get into the playoffs. And his salary isn't exorbitant enough that they'd need Chicago to retain. I'd do it for the 2nd and B-level guy. I'd even give them Vegas's second, which, if the Sabres get McCabe, might be a better pick. Or they can take choice. Edited January 26, 2023 by Eleven 1 1 Quote

If I'm bringing in a vet to support the kids I want someone who knows what winning is like. McCabe did nothing but lose here and Chicago both. He's now in tank #2/3 of his career. Jack Johnson is older, but will be cheaper, and has actual playoff experience. Quote

If they're going to give up a 4th or 5th for Johnson, fine, but McCabe is the better player and the better move. EDIT: Please remember that it needn't be a one-off for this season. The team lacks depth on D and we all know it. Edited January 26, 2023 by Eleven Quote
nfreeman Posted January 26, 2023 Report Posted January 26, 2023 If McCabe wanted to return, I'd happily have him. He turns 30 at the start of next season and is under contract for 2 more seasons after this one at $4MM per year. 3 Quote

McCabe is clearly the better player and we can differ in opinion about how to tinker with team chemistry. Quote
Eleven Posted January 26, 2023 Author Report Posted January 26, 2023 FWIW I haven't seen a single Chicago message board discussing a potential McCabe trade. Just @Brawndo's tweet from the Meier thread. Quote

Porous Five Hole Posted January 26, 2023 Report Posted January 26, 2023 (edited) Jake and his wife were residents of Chicago as far back as 2016 and perhaps earlier. It is why they chose the Hawks in the first place. He’s not leaving. And if he is, he’s not coming to a team like this. He would go to a team like the Avs or Rangers as an over the top acquisition. —edit to add he has a modified NMC and I can almost guarantee Buffalo is on it. steveoath Posted January 27, 2023 Report Posted January 27, 2023 Apparently Craig Button mentions Sabres could be a good spot for Karlsson on a TSN piece today. I can't get the video to play though.... Quote
