I can do it, and as I said before, I suck. And Robin Williams stopped watching the other comedians that went on before him when he did stand up at clubs because he lost a lawsuit for stealing somebody else's joke. If he doesn't hear other people's jokes, he can't use them (neither overtly nor inadvertently) in his own routines. (Yes, realize he died years ago.) Quote
Doohicksie Posted January 14, 2023 Report Posted January 14, 2023 This is kind of germane to the discussion. Not sure I agree with everything he says but there's some good background about copyrighting. Quote

Adam reveals his hand at the end of the video when he show himself playing an altered Monk tune and says “everyone” owns it. He most likely contacted the Monk estate asking for permission to use this tune and they said no, or told him to take it down if it was already posted, so he got pissed and made this video. They are extremely protective and litigious about the copyright infringement of Monks tunes (which is absolutely ridiculous, because most of them are ripoffs of the very “rhythm changes” that every jazz player knows.) I enjoy his videos a lot of the time, but sometimes he gets away from "music" and delves into "music-related" topics, like copyright in this case, and how classical music theory is inherently racist in another video. Like I said, not sure I agree with all he says but it's thought provoking. 1 Quote
