The percentages is always out of 100%, but many face offs don't end up with any clear winner, yet the stats say otherwise

So how do they determine a win?

It's closely related to the formula for New Coke.

it can be misleading as i could draw it straight back and if dman misses it and opposing winger gets to it then i lose draw. I think it evens out though. The stats confirm the eye test of who is good at draws. The eye test for sabres is we have no one who is even average on draws. Stats back it up.

Interesting to go more in depth on the stats to categorize them as clean win, contested win or Push for example instead of win or loss.

And that is a five man operation. When they give stats to just the center for that (or whomever takes them), it’s just ridiculous.

So the centre is only partially responsible, but gets all the blame or all the credit?

No different than the QB who gets an interception because the receiver deflects a throw into the air.  It's also bad to be the king.

Ideally he wins it cleanly back.

But again that depends largely on where the draw is, game situation, who's on the ice, etc...   lots of factors.

But the end game is to gain possession.
