Their head coach was upset about the defensive effort to the media last night. Seems like the Sens got the message (and had some post/crossbar puck luck). Quote

I still hold to my earlier assessment that Krebs isn't going to be an offensive star and he needs to develop into a role player, at which I think he can be very successful. I can see him becoming a pesky irritant with just enough offensive ability to not be ignored. His smiling up beat attitude fits with the idea of him becoming a little powder keg. I think Granato sees this too and is using and developing him exactly as he should be. 1 Quote

They won because the Sabres barely went to the net, played a perimeter game, sent bad passes and had barely any hustle. However the managed to give up three goals which is the norm. Quote
inkman Posted January 2, 2023 Report Posted January 2, 2023 It’s amazing how negative some fans can be despite the team playing the best it has in 15 years. 2 1 4 Quote

JustOneParade Posted January 2, 2023 Report Posted January 2, 2023 I thought the Otters played aggressively while protecting the one-goal lead in the third. Hope the Sabres were paying attention and can learn something from it. 1 2 Quote
French Collection Posted January 2, 2023 Report Posted January 2, 2023 It was disappointing to be at this game, they just didn’t have it last night. Quote

I would have pulled him as soon as we got a face-off down there. But we had so much trouble with puck possession, Ottawa put pressure on whoever had the puck and our guys did not respond to it and connect on passes. Ottawa did a great job in their defensive zone all game, so maybe he thought what eventually did happen would happen. We played with cement blocks on our skates all game. 1 hour ago, JustOneParade said: I thought the Otters played aggressively while protecting the one-goal lead in the third. Yes, they kept on forechecking and putting pressure on our defense, then they got back fast and for the most part stopped us at the blue line. 1 Quote

They win a few in a row and some folks come here and jump in with unrealistic expectations. They lose to a team that is essentially their peer in the current standings and people freak out. They still have a ways to go. Losing 1 in 7 is not the end of the world. Now they need to string more wins together this month to hopefully break away from Detroit, Ottawa and Florida. Things are very dynamic, the next tier in the Conference is the Islanders, Pittsburgh, Rangers - that is the Wildcard tier right now. We are 6 points out with a few games in hand so we are a contender. When the Sabres can skate freely they look like a team that can push for that wildcard spot. When they can't get their game going they fall into the pack along with about 6 other teams. 2 2 Quote
French Collection Posted January 2, 2023 Report Posted January 2, 2023 I suspect the letdown after a big win in Boston plus a few New Year’s Eve drinks went to their legs. Get ‘em next game. Quote

He is not. Too much line switching and no one learns anything. Everyone wants changes to the lines. The first and fourth lines are set, why ruin them? This is the team we have. We have rookies and one year players all over the place. just thinking out loud Quote

FrenchConnection44 Posted January 2, 2023 Report Posted January 2, 2023 I wouldn’t draw much from this game. They lacked energy on back to back games. They will be better next outing. Quote
