matter2003 Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 (edited) Pretty crazy considering their point total in comparison to many of the teams ahead of them. Sabres are the only team that has more than a +2 differential that is currently outside the playoffs. Bruins 48 (48 points - playoffs) Devils 32 (44 - playoffs) Maple Laughs 28 (44 - playoffs) Stars 27 (41 - playoffs) Golden Knights 22 (45 - playoffs) Jets 20 (39 - playoffs) Lightning 20 (39 - playoffs) Penguins 20 (40 - playoffs) Sabres 14 (30 - no playoffs) Islanders 11 (35 - playoffs) Rangers 10 (37 - playoffs) Hurricanes 9 (40 - playoffs) Avalanche 7 (32 - playoffs) Wild 6 (34 - playoffs) Kraken 6 (35 - playoffs) Oilers 6 (35 - playoffs) Panthers 2 (32 - no playoffs) Capitals 1 (34 - no playoffs) Edited December 16, 2022 by matter2003 1 2 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 They were a +19 (right with Boston and Vegas) before the 8-game skid. Keep the d-men healthy, get Comrie on track, and they'll rise back up the standings. The tricky part is consistently beating the teams in the way: PIT, DET, FLA, NYR, NYI, WSH. Do that and the playoffs will come. 2 Quote

Nice to see they finally have broken above their pace last year and are trending upwards towards "playoff pace" Quote

We have to pass the Isles, Rangers, Canes, Caps, and Panthers, plus we have to beat the negative differential teams like Detroit, Montreal, Ottawa, Philly, and CBJ. We cannot lose points to these lower teams. Comrie coming back and playing better is a big key here. 3 Quote

Most of the shots are from the outside and from distance where the goalie has clear views of the puck...they have done a very good job ensuring few odd man rushes and players covered coming down the slot. 1 2 Quote

Florida and Washington both have 1 and 2 more games played while sitting 2 and 4 points ahead of us respectively. Just gotta win. 1 Quote
LGR4GM Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 The Redwings and the Senators play 3 times between now and the 31st. Need those games to end in regulation. The Sabres also sneak in a game against Detroit in this stretch so in those 4 games we need the wings to realistically due no better than 2-2 with one of the losses 100% being against Buffalo. 1 Quote

The East is stacked. 1 Quote

LGR4GM Posted December 16, 2022 Report Posted December 16, 2022 It's so strange that we're a positive goal differential but in the spot we are. I think as we go this team will get better in those tight games they've lost. Quote

When they're healthy, they seem to pressure well & limit chances. But, w/ pressure comes the inevitable breakdown. They haven't had good enough goaltending to stop enough of those breakdowns. With a real goalie, like them playing the style they do. But w/out a goalie that can bail them out, they need to play more passive & hope they can block shots & clear rebounds from shots originating from the outside. 1 Quote
Brawndo Posted December 17, 2022 Report Posted December 17, 2022 I think one of the problems that contributed to the 8 game losing streak was partially rectified last night and that was loading the best defenseman on the top pairing. For a few games when Samuelsson and Jokiharju were out, they played Dahlin and Power as a pair, meaning the remaining pairs were AHL Level and the results spoke for themselves. Last night Samuelsson and Dahlin were together for about 4 minutes of 5v5 time, hopefully the coaching staff continues this 1 1 Quote

UPL has been dreadful on the PK(except last night). He has allowed 11.5 goals above average per 60 minutes...meaning if the Sabres were on the PK for an entire game they would allow almost 12 goals more than an average goalie by the end of the game. He needs to be way better. And way better at rebound control, which even last night he struggled with badly(second goal happened because of that) Quote
