For better or for worse… The NHL is nowhere near and will never be a hint of what it was back then. The days when you memorized the numbers and not the names on the jerseys.
Well they still skate around on ice skates… So I guess it’s sort of close.  😂

I was lucky enough to be there. A rookie takes on Orr, Vadnais, Cashman

And as he was escorted to the dressing room, he apparently yelled at Phil Esposito, "you're next, you ****ing @$$#0|€".

Was unaware of that.

Another great part of that night was the box score. One of the more electric nights the Aud has ever seen

I was there and it was fantastic.  We were establishing ourselves as a good team and we were not going to take any crap from Boston.

I remember the third brawl was really hard to figure out who was going to get what.  Orr came off the bench, it was close to bench clearing.   The poor officials had a hell of a night.

Amazing that Schoeny lasted almost the entire game.

I'd kill for a Shoenfeld on this Buffalo team

He'd need to improve his skating but yes, yes, a thousand time yes.  I loved Schoeny.

Awesome.

This is what a captain is made of. It's not the best player (although 6 was very, very good).  It's not the loudest guy.  It's this.

And if the Sabres are retiring numbers cheaply, which I've historically argued they do, WHY NOT THIS GUY?

There is a great picture of the Schony v. Cashman fight taken from the catwalks at the Aud.  It is hanging in Marinaro's in Larkinville if you are ever in the area.  Last time I was in there which was a few years ago, the owner also had one or two of the collector item sabre's which were I believe a numbered limited edition item from back in the 70's

I was not quite old enough to be at that game, but I definitely remember Schony as a Sabre and I do own a copy of this:

O, believe me, I have it. My wife saw it awhile ago, put it on, and wondered why in the hell I paid good money for it
