He just passed now? Would've guessed he died a long time ago. Orchestrated the Braves leaving town. Quote

mphs mike Posted November 23, 2022 Report Posted November 23, 2022 (edited) Didn't he also have Moses Malone as a Brave for 12 hours or so? Took the time to look - 6 minutes over two games, Paul Snyder was still the owner Edited November 23, 2022 by mphs mike additional information 1 Quote

RIP to the man who destroyed NBA basketball in Buffalo and laughed all the way to the bank, swapping the Braves for the Celtics. Talk about lopsided trades. Sadly had Brown kept the Braves together, we could have had a team of HofFers Malone, Dantley, McAdoo, with all-star Randy Smith at the point, and all-star Kauffman as the other guard. Instead Malone, McAdoo and others were traded for cash, picks and junk players to help pave the way for the David Stern brokered swap of the Braves for the Celtics, so that the Celtics owner could more the corpse of the Braves to San Diego. Wasn't Kauffman gone by the time we had Marin, McMillan, Heard, etc? 1 Quote

Yeah, I’m not sure who he is talking about. Bob Kaufman was a good power forward forced to play center early in Braves history. ***I stand corrected, he did play with all those guys one season as a reserve before going to Atlanta through the New Orleans Jazz as part of expansion draft. As I said, though, he was a power forward and not a guard.*** The team could have been great, though. They were ahead of their time. It would have been quite the lineup with McAdoo, Malone, Dantley and Smith and whomever they played at point guard. It would have been almost positionless basketball with a 6’11” guy shooting from the outside and a 6’5” Dantley crashing the boards with 6’10” Malone and a crazy, athletic shooting guard in the 6’3” Smith who could jump like Jordan. I firmly believe they would have been the NBA champs if allowed to develop. They also had a chance to get Dr. J before Philly got him but that’s another story. Paul Snyder never wanted to be an owner and no one from the city stepped up. Edited November 23, 2022 by tom webster Quote
