You all in the northern midwest, and in Buffalo take care. We have a winter storm warning here, but we're not going to see ANYTHING like you're all gonna get. I've seen highs predicted in many areas that are in negative numbers. I even saw predictions of wind chills as low a -68.

What's gonna suck here is we're going to get our snow when it's borderline freezing so everything will be coated in ice.......... again.

But highs in the negative digits, and all time record low predicted in so many areas......... take the day off, start a fire and watch some hockey. Even places like Buffalo can't expect people to work in what they're expecting.

I grew up in East Aurora and saw some days in the minus single digits. Last year saw several days here in the positive single digits.  I can't imagine -68 wind chill. Unless you live in Alaska or northern Canada and are prepared for it, that could be deadly.

Just got my new gloves in the mail. Bring this cold weather on!

Remember folks, exposed skin dies quickly in these super cold temperatures. Frost bite in less than 30 minutes for most. Layer up.

I'm so freaking psyched! I get to play with all my new cold gear.

Weeks like this are when I am glad I work from home.

School will be cancelled... there's no doubt.

My biggest concern will be how the dogs handle it.  It'll be too cold for them to be out more than a minute or two to do their business and they'll hate even doing that.

Weeks like this are when I’m grateful for my heated toilet seat.

Watching Buffalo weather radar and hoping my wife’s employer has enough sense to send folks home.  She’s got a long commute in good weather.  If that snow train dips a bit south as predicted her Thruway commute is going to a white knuckled.

Is this a thing? I've never worked anywhere that cared about employees surviving their commutes.

I got sent home once about 5 years ago because it was absolutely nuts outside. Like pure whiteout. I drove home by watching the lights infront of me and the purple line on my GPS. If it had been dark I would have been spending the night at work.

Of course, if they'd actually cared about our safety they would have sent us home 2 hours before that when we KNEW it was going to hit. But we didn't have to use PTO for it, so I won't complain.

I just keep my toilets indoors.  Easier that way.

My employer is pretty good about it.  And even if they don’t formally send folks home, I’ve never received pushback when I’ve said I needed to get home due to weather-travel issues.

It's cold here too, but we have had no real snow to speak of.  There has been a pattern where every storm has a combination of everything ... some snow, then the dreaded 'mixed precipitation' and then rain.  Usually with a good measure of wind, just to make it more interesting.  The next one of these storms is due tomorrow.

It is... my employer has shut down offices before.

I have worked in plenty of the places that don't care too.

Most of the folks in my office have their managers come by and encourage/force them to leave early when the weather gets bad. I recognize that this is probably not the norm.

When you work at a hospital, they always expect you to make it into work no matter what.  I've had to stay overnight once already in my 20 years working here.  Fortunately, I no longer work in a capacity that is considered "essential", so tomorrow I think I will take the day off and watch some TV.  I won't be building a fire, though; no fireplace!

Replace hospital with casino and, yup, same! I love it when the governor declares a state of emergency and closes down the highways. They (work) thinks I'm going to stay in the hotel. Ain't happening. I'll be taking surface roads home and sleeping in my bed. Not working unpaid overtime for you with the promise of favors and more PTO in my future. Thanks, but no thanks.
